In today’s highly competitive job market, employers expect graduates to be knowledgeable in their field, ready to solve problems, demonstrate emotional intelligence and intercultural competence and be ready to work effectively in teams. Those amongst many other skills gaps are what our year-long signature program “the Ajira Experience” addresses by preparing young graduates for the job market and also packaging them for successful careers of impact.

This one of its kind hands-on career preparation program aims to compliment university education by equipping young graduates with employability, career readiness skills and professional experience that gives them a competitive edge in the job market.


11 months mentored Professional Work Experience in a partner organization/company,

4 Quarterly Learning Bootcamps that places in 4 different East African countries. Each Bootcamp is 1 week long and is intended to give a young graduate conducive learning environment, exposure, networking opportunities and a greater understanding of the career possibilities across East Africa. During Bootcamps, the Ajira Academy takes care of the food, accommodation, training expenses, insurance and all in-country program related transportation

More than 20 professional courses studies both during bootcamps and online to equip participants with high-level skills that will prepare them for success in their chosen career across different industries and countries. Touch using active and experiential learning methodologies, our courses are coupled with soft soft skills, simulations, personal development… as a way to have a holistic growth of the individual.

Quarterly Robust Feedback from the internship host organization to allow our Career Coaches track your the growth, strengths and areas of improvement for each participants. It means we get quarterly reports plus one final report from the host organization. It's important to mention that this will be qualitative feedback prepared by a dedicated mentor.

Dedicated Personal Coach for 15 months 12 months of the program and 3 extra months as we support our alumni to transition into a full time job. The above-mentioned feedback report becomes the main focus for your coach to support you in your growth and other career-related coaching sessions. The Ajira Experience being an intensive year full of many events and learnings, your dedicated coach will be your “go to” person to talk, reflect and derief about your learnings at the workplace, challenges, opportunities and anything else so that you take can get the most of this program and also make sound post-program

decisions. Your coach will guide and support you in your journey towards self awareness, personal growth and other aspects of your career choices.

1 year personal accident insurance to protect against all unforeseen situations that may occur during your year-long internship, bootcamps and other discovery and learning travels that will take place in several locations across East Africa. Your success and safety are our two major priorities. Other non-emergency illnesses are a person responsibility of each participant.

After graduation, each alumni is granted free membership into our paid Kareer Ripe Network where we support and expose members to several opportunities from our network and employer partners in order to swiftly transition from the program and land on their dream jobs in no time. All members also attend annual gatherings to support in other growth, mentoring and networking needs along their careers. By virtue of being an alumni of the Ajira Experience one therefore becomes very marketable in the job market and at least rest assured that Ajira will give all the support needed both in job hunt efforts, career launch and career growth. We do the above because the long-term growth of each alumni is key to us because their success will exponentially impact future cohorts of the Ajira Experience participants.

Requirements

  • A participant should be 30 years of age,
  • Need to have graduated not more than 5 years ago,
  • Be ready to commit fulltime to the host organization for 11 months of professional apprenticeship,
  • Be willing to attend all the 4 bootcamps and other educational tours that will take place across East Africa. During those travels, meals, accommodation, insurance and training costs are responsibility of Ajira Academy,
  • Be in a position to pay the program cost $1000 or meet the requirements for our scholarships program.
