  • Africa Re hereby invites applications from suitably qualified individuals to fill the position of Assistant Claims Officer at the Support Grade level in her Nairobi Regional Office, Kenya

    Job Details


  • The successful candidate will have the responsibility for managing the claims portfolio allocated to him/her and reporting to the Manager - Claims.

    Job Details

    The duties shall comprise amongst others

  • Review and acknowledge claims notification received from cedants and brokers

  • Maintain proper records of all claims notification and follow up to logical conclusion

  • Keep an audit trail of all reported claims

  • Ability to manage a portfolio - prompt review of reported claims and analyses of policy liability

  • Respond promptly and accurately to client and broker queries

  • Prompt processing of reported reinsurance claims recoveries and ensure reinsurance share are correctly calculated

  • Prepare claims files for management review and approvals

  • Reconciliation of cedants and brokers accounts

  • Follow up on claim payments and communicate efficiently to cedants and brokers

  • Provide and deliver quality services to cedants and brokers.

  • Prompt process and monitor the development of the outstanding claims provision

  • Prepare progress reports on claims development and any other management claim reports

  • Prompt request of claims supporting documents

  • Manage the follow up and reconciliation of cash call credit refunds

    Main Competencies

  • Strong technical knowledge and experience in all the classes of
    insurance business (underwriting and claims)

  • Proven experience in handling reinsurance claims recoveries

  • Practical knowledge of all types of reinsurance treaty and facultative arrangements

  • Very good knowledge of proportional and non-proportional treaty contract wordings and how the relevant clauses that affect the handling reinsurance claim recoveries

  • Stakeholder Management particularly with key re/insurance claims professional service providers

  • In-depth knowledge of appropriate insurance and reinsurance principles, practices and laws as applicable to different lines of business;

  • Strong analytical skills

  • Excellent oral and written communication

  • Negotiation and Presentation skills

  • Good use of MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook);

  • Problem-solving abilities with strong decision-making capability

  • Ability to work with tight deadline and handle volumes efficiently

    Academic Qualifications

    Applicants shall be holders of:

  • Bachelor’s or equivalent degree with recognized institution of higher learning

  • Minimum of 5 years hand on experience in similar role

  • Relevant Professional qualifications will also be an advantage

  • Relevant work experience in a claims department of a reinsurance company or reinsurance and/or claims department of an insurance company is a must.

    Salary & Benefits

    The successful candidate shall have the following benefits:

  • Competitive Basic Salary on the Corporation’s Support Staff Grade Level

  • Variable pay (Annual Performance Bonus)

  • Joint contribution to the Provident Fund (7% of the basic salary paid by staff and 14% by the employer)

  • Children education subsidy for each child up to 26 years (maximum 4 children)

  • Medical cover for staff and family;

  • Housing Allowance

  • Inflation Adjustment that may increase or decrease depending on the economic situation

    Additional Requirements

    Applicants must also be:

  • Fluent in English language
