AFNET BMGF Project Coordinator | Kampala - AFENET Secretariat Jobs in Uganda AFENET is seeking to recruit one (01) highly qualified & experienced epidemiologist to serve as
Project Coordinator to spearhead implementation of the Enhanced Polio Surveillance at the Community Level in Africa Project across all the supported countries that include: Cameroon, Chad, DRC and Niger.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Project Coordinator will be responsible for the overall day to day implementation of the project
activities across the four supported countries above, and in each of the countries, He/She will work
with in-country teams comprised of one Country Coordinator and one Data Manager who will be
directly liaising with CBOs staff to implement project activities in line with the overall objective to eradicate Polio. .
He/She will ensure regular and timely communication and updates on project implementation to all stakeholders including, the AFENET Head of Programs and the BMGF points of contact.
Key roles of the Project Coordinator will include:
Conducting rapid management and administrative assessments through group discussions and one-on-one interviews with BMGF and community-based organizations in the first one or two months of assuming duty.
Work with the BMGF and CBOs to develop the overall program strategic plan including performance monitoring frameworks, standardized training plans as well as supervisory plan for the project across all the four implementing countries.
Review, update and Standardize existing AFP surveillance training approaches and materials for use across all the project countries
In consultation with the BMGF, CBOs and other in country stakeholders, lead the process to review, update, refine and monitoring Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the project.
Participate in orientation of country CBOs (existing and newly identified) on the performance monitoring framework, supervisory plan, and various technical aspects of the program, including standardized training and KPIs.
Manage, monitor and guide projectstaff to work on the activities and objectives listed in the project work plan, and ensure their work is conducted in a timely manner and is of high quality
Monitor technical and financial reporting from the community-based organizations in agreed frequency and ensure implementation is on track to achieve planned objectives
Review and package aggregate data per country to compile overall project reports, and submit overall project progress reports to AFENET and BMGF within prescribed frequency and timelines
Liaise with Country Coordinators and Data Managers to ensure that the quality of the
deliverables and reports submitted to AFENET are according to relevant guidelines, and hold the expected standard of quality
Ensure monthly, quarterly and annual project progress reports are submitted in an accurate and timely manner to AFENET
Oversee the monitoring and evaluation processes for this project including supervising the Data Managers and Country Coordinators and monitor implementation of the M&E plan
Coordinate the flow of communication between country project partners, AFENET and BMGF.
Works with CBOs, Ministries of Health, BMGF and other stakeholders to develop scientific manuscripts for publishing in peer review journals.
Perform any other tasks deemed necessary to achieve the project objectives
Master of Public Health, or Master's degree in health related fields
Bachelor’s degree in any of the following fields: Human Medicine or other Health related Bachelor’s degree, Public/Environmental Health, Pharmacy, and Veterinary Medicine
Experience and Skills:
At least 5-10 years of relevant progressively responsible experience in public health,
both at the national and international levels including VPD surveillance and immunization at national and international levels, particularly in developing countries
Strong management and leadership experience, including management of diverse staff working in a wide range of settings including complex environments
Experience working with multiple international non-governmental organizations, or biand multi-lateral agencies will be an advantage
Proficiency in the use of the following software: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
Statistical Packages: Epi Info, Stata or SPSS or SAS; knowledge in ODK and GIS would be an asset
Experience verifying and analyzing data, and presenting comprehensive reports for stakeholders
Proficiency in French is a very strong requirement and English an added advantage
Ability to communicate and coordinate with government, and national andinternational
non-government stakeholders, and UN agencies
Strong coordination, communication, and interpersonal aptitudes & fluency in French
Sensitivity to cultural differences and understanding of the ethical issues surrounding
research and surveillance
Good team player with ability to work collaboratively with multiple partners and teams
at national and sub national levels.
Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
Openness to new ideas and willingness to accept different opinions and feedback
Patience and sense of humor
Willingness to travel for extended periods of time to project implementation countries,
sometimes through rough terrain and weather conditions
