Organizational Context AATF is an international not-for-profit organisation that facilitates and promotes public/private partnerships to promote food security and enhance the livelihoods of smallholder farmers in SSA.
AATF works with African governments, private and public technology owners and developers, NGOs, seed companies, and African smallholder farmers to identify and access technologies that address farmers’ key problems and empower them through the availability of a choice of agricultural innovations that generate wealth and health for their families and communities.
AATF is a registered charity under the laws of England and Wales and has host country status with the Government of Kenya.
The Foundation depends on the ongoing support and collaboration of different partners and investors to meet its objectives.
Under the direct supervision of the Project Manager OFAB, the Programme Officer will assist in project management, coordination and reporting, and accountability obligations of the Project.
The role aims to strengthen the implementation of OFAB promoting the identity and profile of the project.
Functions / Key Results Expected
Development, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of the OFAB Project.
Support the OFAB Chapters in the planning and implementation of their annual plans.
Support OFAB Chapters to develop and strategy of OFAB nodes in the OFAB Chapters.
Support the Project Manager in analyzing the financial-narrative reports from OFAB Chapters.
Development of advocacy and communication materials including policy briefs, booklets, and reports.
Liaise with chapters to source, edit and publish OFAB project impact stories in a regular bulletin.
Support the OFAB Chapter in the implementation of the Annual Media Awards, and the Project Manager in the coordination and delivery of the Africa OFAB Annual Media Awards.
Manage activities, ensuring appropriate plans are developed, implemented, monitored, and reported by the Chapters and OFAB Africa.
Liaise with the AATF Digital Officer in incentivizing and tracking OFAB and Agricultural Biotechnology media mentions.
Support the Digital Officer in regularly updating the AATF and OFAB websites and social media pages with timely information from the Chapters.
Manage media activities ensuring appropriate plans are developed, implemented, monitored, and reported by the chapters and OFAB Africa to support a health engagement between the project and SSA media to grow the number of favourable earned stories in biotechnology.
Reporting and Accountability
Support the Project Manager in the timely submission of AATF Corporate reports.
Support the Project Manager in the timely submission of reports to the donor.
Follow up with OFAB Chapters on timely submission of monthly report, mid-term, and annual report in accordance with sub-grantee agreements.
Produce ad-hoc reports as exigencies the role and project may require from time to time.
Assist in the development, implementation, and monitoring of OFAB project grassroots and high-level communication and advocacy campaigns in line with the projects primary outcomes
Support the Project Manager in convening the monthly meetings with the OFAB Chapters, partners, and other stakeholders.
Develop and manage the OFAB Partnership Database at national and Africa
level to ensure timely provision of information to partners and stakeholders.
Support facilitation of OFAB activities through concept design, program development, and following up on the action points.
Management of Project-related events in mounting and managing OFAB displays in exhibitions and meetings as required.
Engage in effective dialogues, provide timely responses to communication, and enquires to nurture relationships and generate desirable traffic.
Impact of Results:
The key results have impact on AATF’s corporate brand positioning, visibility, and reputation, including overall success with the implementation of AATF projects, initiatives, and strategies.
The results will build AATF as a strong development partner through a robust and engaging OFAB.
Strong advocacy and communication skills including effective public relations
proven social media sue skills and ability to use information technology effectively as a tool and resource
Strong organisational skills with the ability to plan and prioritise work activities to meet OFAB goals and objectives
Strong diplomatic and negotiation skills and nimble to changing environments and relationships.
Good networking skills and ability to build and sustain relationships with key partners.
Ability to write/edit good reports, impact stories, and minutes of meetings
A good understanding of agricultural biotechnology social-political and regulatory environments
Ability to build and sustain relationships with key constituents (donors, research institutions, media, government institutions, etc.)
Ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment.
High-level interpersonal and cross-cultural skills including ability to build alliances and collaborative relationships with sensitivity to diversity.
Ability to maintain high standards of integrity; establish straightforward, productive relationships; treating individuals with fairness and respect.
Fluency in English. Knowledge of French or Portuguese would be an added advantage
Master’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or any other related and equivalent disciplines from a recognized institution;
At least five (5) years’ experience in communication and advocacy campaigns in a science-related field
Experience in partnership project management/coordination
Good understanding of sub-Saharan Africa’s agricultural biotechnology and social-political and policy environments
Fluency in written and spoken English. A working knowledge of French would be an added advantage
