AAH - I Partnerships and Business Development Co-ordinator Jobs in UgandaPurpose of Position: The Partnerships & Business Development Coordinator is responsible for providing overall leadership in securing and growing the resources that AAH-I in the region and in AAH Uganda need to deliver its vision, mission and strategic targets.
In particular: strengthening engagement with current and potential partners/donors; positioning AAH Uganda for potential funding; designing winning proposals and exploration into innovative forms of raising unrestricted funds.
AAH Uganda Country resource mobilization strategy and annual operating plans in place, with targets and indicators achieved;
Thriving strategic partnerships with private and public institutions, research, academia and humanitarian agencies.
Adequate and sustainable resourcing level, and funding mix, of AAH Uganda programme portfolio achieved.
Key Result Area 1: Carry out research, contextual analysis and planning for new business development:
Keep up-to-date with donor policy developments and trends, in the development and humanitarian sectors in Uganda, regionally and globally. Should be well-informed and knowledgeable about funding sources, donor guidelines, formats, rules, regulations, and restrictions;
Develop country resource mobilization strategy and break it down to actionable annual operating plans with clear forecasts and targets, and track/report accomplishment on quarterly basis;
Set up and maintain a robust funding opportunities intel system, be proactive in the lookout for opportunities for funding and facilitate the internal process of “bid/no bid”;
Develop pre-positioning plans and participate in pitching events with potential partners and donors;
Maintain a ‘pursuit list’ of the funding pipeline and extract reports and analyses to share with senior management.
Key Result Area 2: Lead quality and innovative programme designs:
Guide the country team to develop and deepen programmatic thinking and design of innovative programming models that better address the needs of women, children and youth in the country, in line with the SDGs and professional standards;
Leverage, adapt and promote innovative programming and non-traditional fundraising initiatives, particularly; social enterprises, application of ICT4D techniques, research collaboration, innovation challenge, legacy funding and online fundraising;
Leverage internal technical resources to support funding proposal development to ensure high quality concepts and proposals are prepared in timely manner, and in line with AAH-I and donor guidelines;
Work with Finance team to ensure budgeting and all necessary costs are correctly incorporated in a manner that meets the AAH-I cost recovery policy and donor thresholds;
Oversee business development services work that are outsourced to vendors, ensuring quality, timeliness and value for money.
Key Result Area 3: Support the operationalization of our strategic intent of initiating and nurturing strategic partnership with organisations that share our values and aims.
Represent the organisation in various inter-agency coordination and donor forums and use the opportunity to promote the work of AAH Uganda;
Develop organizational capability statements to depict the work we do, our approaches and impact.
Assist in the preparation of reports and strategic papers for high level engagement by senior management and the board.
Identify and develop innovative and strategic partnerships and consortia with private, public, research, academic and non-government partners. Ensure an up-to-date network of key partners and partner-engagement plan exist;
Develop close relationships with donor agencies, particularly those with local missions in Kampala, maintaining sound on-going relationships i.e. soliciting and providing feedback and exploring opportunities for growth and for deepening their engagement with AAH Uganda.
Key Result Area 4: Contribute to knowledge management, learning and capacity strengthening in the organization.
Develop and maintain a well-organized digital database of project designs, proposals, concept notes and ‘pitching documents’ that can be easily accessed and shared whenever required;
Promote continuous learning in the area of programme and resource development at country as well as regional level, facilitating the sharing of experiences and expertise across the region.
Advise and support programme implementation teams entering into new donor contracts, including compliance with regulations on financial management, procurement, audit, reporting, visibility and communications.
Link learnings from the field to the emerging programming approaches in order to create innovations that would render AAH Uganda a competitive edge in winning funding opportunities.
Coordinate after-action-reviews of proposal development activities, document and share key lessons learned for quality improvement.
Minimum Qualification and Requirements:
Master’s degree in Business Administration, Social Science, International Development or related field;
A very good knowledge of global humanitarian issues and trends, especially in The Horn and The Great Lakes, coupled with ability to analyse impact and opportunities of unfolding events on donor funding;
Experience of at least 7 years and strong knowledge (breadth and depth) of AAH-I’s major programming pillars: food and income security; health; education and disaster risk reduction and management, as well as the cross-cutting themes (gender, conflict sensitivity, ICT4D and good governance);
Administratively self-sufficient and strong computer skills with advanced proficiency with MS applications. Preferred experience in using ICT for development, in particular, mobile technology and data management, to improve programme efficiency and effectiveness.
Good knowledge of project log-frames, strong analytical skills and ability to think strategically and innovatively, constantly pursuing new and better ways of working;
Familiarity with and experience in responding to Requests for Applications/Proposals (RFA/RFP), Call for Proposals (CFP) and unsolicited calls;
Demonstrated record of success in developing winning funding proposals from a diverse range of donors. Experience in raising funds from corporations and/or large trusts and foundations and non-traditional donors is an advantage;
Ability to engage at strategic level with bilateral and multilateral donors, Governments, private sector and INGOs, exhibiting excellent presentation, communication, negotiation and networking skills;
An energetic self-starter with resilience, pace, interpersonal flexibility and ability to deal with demanding work situations and sometimes ambiguity. Able to work under pressure and has the ability to meet tight deadlines;
Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to harness cross-functional contributions to the programme and resource development processes, being able to effectively employ face-to-face, telephone, Skype, email and other electronic communication with internal and external colleagues.
