JRS is an International Catholic organisation, present in over 50 countries, with a mandate to accompany, serves and defends the rights of refugees and forcibly displaced people.
It engages in educational, social, pastoral, health and legal services among refugees and undertakes advocacy on their behalf.
Location: Kenya (Nairobi)
Location: Nairobi, with travel to the projects in the region; Tanzania, Uganda, Sudan, Kenya, Ethiopia
The regional and country directors retain their responsibility and authority in staff matters.
The personnel officer helps the directors to develop the following areas of concern:
To promote the welfare of the personnel in the region according to the JRS mission; accompaniment of the staff and assistance & training of the directors in doing the same
To help facilitate and build project, country and regional teams
To facilitate the regional and country directors to review the work of all their staff
To manage and review the remuneration, security, health, insurance and other welfare provisions for staff; to implement the HR Policy
To help the regional and country directors implement and monitor all the provisions in the Code of Conduct
To help directors ensure that good recruitment, management and debriefing of staff takes place
To help mediate with staff grievances or disputes and to have a particular concern to ensure provision for any staff members who suffer from traumatic incidents
To monitor good filing, recording and security of personnel data in the region
To help liaise with international personnel agencies who send staff to work for JRS
Qualifications & Experience:
Very good pastoral sense & listening abilities
Ability to understand and communicate the JRS spirit and mission
Preferably 5 years experience in this type of work in the humanitarian world overseas & in difficult circumstances
Good communications skills, including ability to write reports, use the computer & email
Good multicultural sensitivities
Able to work well in mixed teams & skill to facilitate & train teams
Experience in the management of stress
Qualification in Personnel Management
