Post Level: P3 (ALD Equivalent)

Duty Station: Khartoum, Sudan

Duration: 6 months initially, with possible extensions

Required Competencies & Knowledge

  • Thorough knowledge of planning processes, especially joint planning and the use of decision-making tools and GIS, and of demining SOPs, technical and international humanitarian safety standards and procedures.
  • Experience in strategic planning.
  • Experience at working in a peacekeeping environment is an asset.
  • Knowledge of the UN system and UNOPS procedures is an asset.
  • Proven team building and leadership skills.
  • Strong analytical ability.
  • Computer literacy, in particular, experience of using MS Office (MS Access and MS project) and IMSMA.
  • Proven knowledge of International Mine Action Standards (IMAS) and the implementation thereof.
  • Understanding of mine action and the interactions between the components and actors involved in a humanitarian mine action programme.
  • Excellent communicating skills
  • Physically fit and in good health.
  • Self reliant and able to work independently.
  • Driving license.

    Academic Qualifications/Experience/Language

  • Advanced university degree (Masters Degree or equivalent) in business administration, project management or related field or senior staff qualification; or first level university degree or military/police college or junior command and staff course combined with relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
  • At least 5 years of working experience, preferably in mine action operations and planning (military or humanitarian mine action), with at least 2 years of proven and applicable experience in strategic planning and any other planning exercise.
  • Formal tertiary education or staff college qualification courses will be an asset.
  • Experience in project management, monitoring and evaluation.
  • Experience with the QA and QC process with regard to humanitarian Mine Action is an asset.
  • Experience working in a multicultural environment is required.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English, knowledge of Arabic an advantage.
