Director, Finance and Administration - HFHI

Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) is seeking a qualified and experienced professional to fill the role of Director, Finance and Administration in our area office serving the Africa/Middle East (AME) region.

Reporting directly to the area vice president for the region, this role directs activities related to finance, administration, legal, operations and information systems functions and involves up to 30% international travel.

Job Location: Pretoria, South Africa.


  • Directly supervise 7 staff with overall department of 10+ and manage the area office departments mentioned above in a manner consistent with organizational finance policies and procedures
  • Advise the area vice president on matters relating to finance and administration
  • Develop, implement and maintain area office finance and information systems policies within the organizational guidelines
  • Collect, analyze and report on financial activities of the area office, national organizations and affiliates, demonstrating trends and comparisons in performance for the purposes of strategic decision-making
  • Manage the process of transferring funds to the national organizations and affiliates, track cash balances
  • Develop and maintain treasury operations procedures for management of cash flow, balances and foreign currency exchange
  • Oversee and coordinate the development of the annual area budget, the national organization and affiliate budget process
  • Support good communication between area and headquarters offices by serving as liaison with departments at headquarters functionally aligned
  • Serve as a member of the area office senior management team, assisting in the development of finance strategy

    Required Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting or finance; MBA or equivalent preferred; certification in accountancy (CA, CPA, CMA or equivalent)
  • 7-10 years of experience in the field of finance, including at least 2 years supervisory experience.
  • Fluency in English; additionally French, Arabic or Portuguese preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of finance, accounting, human resources and administrative functions in an international environment
  • Excellent cross-cultural management skills
  • Ability to work in an unstructured entrepreneurial environment on complex projects
