International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is seeking to employ an Analyst/Planner (Energy Systems) (P-2.
Reporting to the Senior Energy/Nuclear Power Planner, the Analyst/Planner (Energy Systems)ensures that the specialized application software of the IAEA's analytical tools for energy systems analysis (energy models) are well maintained and functional on various computer systems/platforms, and that approved enhancements to the energy models are incorporated in an efficient manner ensuring compliance with the standards and compatibility with end-user resources
(1) An energy systems modeller, engaged in enhancing and maintaining specialized analytical tools for energy systems analysis (energy models);
(2) An analyst, contributing to the design and validation of analytical tools, and;
(3) A team member, contributing as required to various data queries and analysis in support of programme objectives.
The Analyst/Planner builds close working relationships within the Section, with nuclear knowledge management staff responsible for the development/enhancement of the IAEA's energy models and nuclear knowledge management related energy/nuclear indicators, and with IT counterparts throughout the Agency.
Functions / Key Results Expected:
Implement, as required, upgrading and maintenance of specialized application software of analytical tools for energy systems analysis (energy models).
Build systems as required and contribute technical knowledge to the development and enhancement of distance learning packages.
Validate the functionality of energy models on various computer systems/platforms by designing and implementing tests.
Provide data and analysis support to the Section Head and the Programme Manager for the Agency's programme on capacity building and nuclear knowledge maintenance for sustainable energy development.
Strong mathematical modelling (operations research) and analytical skills with special focus on energy system modelling and analysis;
Demonstrated skills in developing and maintaining large computer based models, databases and state-of-the art computer programming techniques/languages;
Knowledge of important issues related to the development/planning of sustainable energy systems.
Strong communication skills, including the ability to write technical reports, computer manuals, user guides, etc. in a structured and clear manner.
Good interpersonal skills: Ability to establish effective working relationships with other staff and to work in a multicultural/multidisciplinary team with respect and sensitivity for diversity.
Education, Experience and Language Skills:
University (or equivalent) degree in systems analysis, operations research, computer science, applied mathematics, energy economics, engineering or natural sciences.
At least 2 years of working experience in developing and maintaining specialized application software with special focus on energy system modelling and analysis.
Fluency in spoken and written English. Working knowledge of French desirable.
