World Food Programme Engineering Vacancies in Kenya


Key Accountabilities:

  • Contribute to the implementation of WFP policies, standards, norms and practices ensuring compliance with the wider WFP policies, procedures, guidelines and operations.
  • Provide engineering and project management services, apply best practices, standards and innovative technologies that comply with WFP standards and processes.
  • Undertake capacity gap needs assessment of the partners and organize capacity building programmes (workshops, training, exchange visits etc.) to address these gaps, especially focussed on small-scale irrigation and other rain water harvesting systems in Turkana County.
  • Support County governments and WFP
  • Cooperating Partners in designing quality projects that address the underlying causes of food insecurity.
  • Contribute towards analysis of the project proposals from the county to enable effective decision making on project technical feasibility.
  • Monitor the implementation of the projects through field visits and provide necessary technical support.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

    Skills and Competencies:

  • Understanding of community based participatory planning approaches
  • Ability to conduct capacity gaps needs assessments and design programmes to fill these gaps.
  • Experience in working in arid and semi-arid parts of Kenya
  • Familiarity with water harvesting technologies and pastoral livelihood approaches
  • Excellent communication skills - both written and oral in English and Kiswahili. Skills in workshop facilitation.
  • Strong organization and planning skills coupled with good interpersonal skills.
  • Good analytical skills; resourcefulness, initiative, maturity of judgment, tact, negotiating skills;
  • Ability to work in a team, and establish effective working relations with persons of different national and cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to deal patiently and tactfully with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.

    Qualifications and Experience:

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in the following fields; Irrigation Engineering, Water Engineering, or Agricultural Engineering, from a recognized universities.
  • Experience: At least six years field experience in working at county level implementing community based development projects.
  • Training and/or experience using MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint and outlook
  • Language: Fluency in English language.

    World Food Programme Senior Programme Associate Vacancies

    Standard Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Successful completion of secondary school education, preferably supplemented by a post-secondary certificate in the related functional area, including communication, economics, development studies, social sciences or international relations. A degree in the mentioned fields is an added advantage.
  • Experience: At least six years of progressively responsible experience of which at least one year closely related to implementing technical programmes with increased levels of responsibility e.g. communications, nutrition, food aid related work, or other related field.
  • Language: Fluency (level C) in English.

    Accountabilities & Responsibilities (not all-inclusive)

  • Under the direct supervision of the Knowledge Management Officer and the overall guidance of the Senior Regional Programme Officer, the Senior Programme Associate (Reports) will be responsible for the following duties:
  • Support country offices’ reporting staff to ensure that standard Operational Information Management (OIM) & Performance Reporting (PR) procedures and templates are followed to drive the quality, consistency and standardisation of information management and performance reporting across WFP;
  • Provide support and clarification on reporting policies and other related issues to country offices;
  • Coordinate, track and ensure country offices’ timely submission of monthly sitreps, briefs and key statistical information;
  • Review, edit and clear country briefs and other sitreps from country offices.
  • Coordinate the annual Standard Project Reports (SPRs) and Annual Country Reports (ACR) process, in collaboration with country offices’, Regional Bureau and Headquarter teams to ensure high
    quality and timely reporting to donors on results achieved and resources used;
  • In close collaboration with technical units in RBN Regional Bureau and Country Offices such as M&E, Vulnerability Assessment and Mapping (VAM), programme and supply chain, develop internal reporting products, for improved programme design and implementation, and external reporting products, to demonstrate the role of WFP in addressing food insecurity and nutrition;
  • Collate relevant information and data from media and local internal and external sources to facilitate and maximize the exchange of information and data flow between functional area networks in WFP, to provide operational awareness and understanding of events that may have humanitarian and/or operational impact;
  • As required, during emergencies, support country offices in the preparation of emergency sitreps, organise and provide secretarial support to Operational Task Forces (OTFs);
  • Support the enhancement of the capacity of WFP staff and partners to effectively manage operational information and performance reporting, for example through scheduling the delivery of the OIM & PR trainings;
  • Perform other related duties as required.

    Desirable Skills:

  • Training and/or experience using MS Word, MS
  • Excel, MS PowerPoint and outlook.
  • Knowledge of graphic design and ability to produce info graphs an advantage.
  • Specialized technical background in quantitative analysis, such as statistics and econometrics an advantage.

    World Food Programme Regional Food Assistance for Assets Technical Advisor Vacancies in Kenya

    Job Purpose

  • To provide support to policy and programme activities that effectively meet food assistance needs.

    Accountabilities & Responsibilities (not all-inclusive)

  • Identify opportunities for ‘staffing exchanges’ between COs within the region (using a seasonal peek support model)
  • Manage the day to day oversight and CO support for the design, implementation and completion of the CO’s FFA roadmaps and all activities.
  • Coordinate RBN-Programme multi-unit support missions (i.e. FFA with NUT/M&E/SSN/RES/SAMs/Insurance/PI & KM)
  • Be accountable for and ensure through oversight and tracking CO compliance of 2017/18 risk mitigation SoPS, FLA Annexes and Agreements
  • Identify and communicate, via the RBN PPO for FFA to OSZPR, new opportunities and gaps in the designing, planning, implementing, monitoring, and reporting of FFA at the CO level
  • Liaise with OSZPR on the identification and development of multi-year FFA/DRR/Resilience donor (traditional and non-traditional) proposals with the RB Donor Relations and Partnerships Office.

    Standard Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Advanced University degree in Engineering, Agriculture, Environmental Science or other field relevant to international development assistance, or First University Degree with additional years of related work experience and/or trainings/courses.

  • Language: EnGlish, Fluency (level C)

  • Experience: At least 3-5 years of relevant experience in programme management and/or technical research; experience of leading the development of reports/policies, particularly focusing on FFA; experience working with the United Nations system and knowledge of UN structure
