How can you make a difference?

The Chief, Child Protection reports to the Deputy Representative for general guidance and direction. The Chief is responsible for managing and supervising all stages of child protection programs/projects from strategic planning and formulation to delivery of concrete and sustainable contributions to national and international efforts to create a protective environment for children against all harm and to protect their rights to survival, development and well being as established under the Convention on the Rights of the Child, international treaties/framework and UN intergovernmental bodies.

The Chief is responsible for establishing the plans of action and overseeing work progress to ensure the achievement of concrete and sustainable programs/projects results according to plans, allocation, results based-management approaches and methodology (RBM) and UNICEF's Strategic Plans, standards of performance and accountability framework.

He/shewill contribute to the overall technical leadership and management of the Child Protection programme in Ghana. The focus will be on building sustainable child protection systems, evidence for scale up of programmes, strategic advocacy on child violations and monitoring and evaluation and fundraising in a Middle Income Country context.

Critical to the implementation of the programme will be to lead a team of national and international staff, build positive team dynamics and opportunities for professional and personal growth and as a member of the senior management, contribute to the overall governance of the office.

This will involve:

and partnership building6. Innovation, knowledge management and capacity building

To qualify as an advocate for every child, you will have…

  • An Advanced University Degree (Master's) in international development, human rights, psychology, sociology, international law or other social science field is required.

  • A minimum of 8 years of progressively responsible professional work experience in areas of social development planning and management in child protection and/other related areas at the national and international level, some of which preferably were served in a developing country.

  • Relevant experience in child protection and related areas, program/project development and management in a UN system agency or organization as an asset.

  • Experience in leading and supervising a team of professionals

  • Experience in working in lower to higher middle income countries and fundraising for scaling up programmes.

  • Experience in working on systems strengthening and innovation.
  • Engagement with private sector for strategic advocacy and engagement.
  • Experience in both development and humanitarian contexts are an added advantage.
  • Fluency in English (written & verbal) is required.
  • Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish) or a local language is considered an asset.
