Teacher / Senior Trained Diploma Technical Teacher / Senior Lecturer –
(Job Group ‘M’) - (150 Posts)


Applicants must be professionally qualified Graduate/Approved Teacher /Trained Diploma Technical
Teachers I /Ordinary Diploma Teacher I who are currently teaching and performing duties as Principals in Secondary Schools in ASAL areas and have satisfactorily served for at least three (3) years at Job Group ‘L’.

Applicants must demonstrate knowledge on;
i. The structure and functions of the TSC
ii. Laws and Regulations that govern the teaching service (TSC Act, TSC Code of Regulation for Teachers, TSC Code of Conduct and Ethics, Basic Education Act and other relevant laws and policies).
iii. General Institutional Administration and financial management
iv. Curriculum Development, Implementation and Evaluation.
v. Teacher Professionalism and Integrity.
vi. Performance management and reforms in the teaching service
vii. Safety of Learners.
viii. General information on current issues of national importance.

Successful candidates will be deployed substantively as Principals in Secondary Schools.

2. Teachers Service Commission Vacancies for Principals of National Schools and Tertiary Institutions

The Teachers Service Commission is a Constitutional Commission established under article 237 of the Constitution.

Pursuant to its mandate, the Commission is advertising positions for Principals of National
Schools and Tertiary Institutions.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Be a lead educator and administrator in the institution.
  • Manage and implement institutional curriculum.
  • Administer teaching functions in the institution including the evaluation of curriculum
    delivery.
  • Be responsible for implementation of education policy and professional practice and
    maintenance of the teaching standards at the institutional level.
  • Procure goods and services within the public procurement guidelines for institutional use.
  • Be the custodian of records of the institution.
  • Be Secretary to the Board of Management (BoM) and ensure execution of the decision of
    the Board.
  • Ensure diligent utilization of institutional resources.
  • Be responsible for the resource mobilization, project planning, administration and
    management of human resource.
  • Ensure maintenance of high standards of discipline by both staff and students.
  • Ensure compliance to the statutory requirements and other relevant laws related to
    employment.
  • Be responsible for the establishment and maintenance of a safe and conducive
    environment for learners.
  • Be conversant with relevant provisions in the constitution, other laws and regulations that
    relate among others to:

    Teacher Professionalism
    i. Education.
    ii. Rights of the child.
    iii. National values and Principles of Governance.
    iv. Fair Administrative action.
    v. Values and Principals of Public Service.

    Minimum Qualifications and Experience
  • Be a Kenyan Citizen.
  • Be at Job Group ‘P’ and above.
  • Be in possession of Bachelor of Education Degree (B.E.D) or Bachelors Degree and Post
    Graduate Degree with Education (PGDE) from a university recognized in Kenya.
  • Have a minimum of 10 years teaching experience in administration in a Post Primary
    Institution.
  • Proven track record of performance.
  • Must have maintained a clean record of service.
  • Must satisfy the requirement of Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution.
  • Be Computer Literate.

    NB: Masters Degree and/or a Course in Management and Leadership will be an added advantage.
