Senior Lecturer in Tourism Management, 1 Position, Ref: PU/ADV/26/10/2016

  • An earned PhD in Tourism Management or equivalent qualification from an accredited and recognized
    • Have a minimum of three (3) years work experience as Lecturer/Research Fellow at University level /
    Research institution /Industry.
    • Have supervised since appointment as Lecturer, at least three (3) post-graduate students to
    • Have attended and contributed at learned conferences, seminars or workshops.
    • Have evidence of continued research and/or effective teaching.
    • be registered with the relevant professional body (where applicable);
    • Demonstrate community involvement (e.g. Member of BOG, SMC etc.)
    • Lead and coordinate at institutional, departmental, school and community level.
    • Teach and/or research and supervise undergraduate and graduate students.
    • Write Proposals, reports and research papers.

    • Teaching ( 3 units per semester) and evaluation of undergraduate and postgraduate students
    • Setting, moderating, administering, processing and marking examinations.
    • Adhere to the examination policy.
    • Academic advising and mentoring undergraduate and postgraduate students.
    • Articulating the Vision and Mission of the University, and the Department and the Faculty.
    • Initiating, planning and conducting research.
    • Development of teaching and learning materials.
    • Supervising undergraduate and postgraduate students in research activities. Developing
    research proposals for funding. Participate in meetings and conferences related to research
    and building inter-disciplinary collaboration within and outside the department.
    • Participating in preparation of Department and Faculty strategic plans.
    • Organizing and supervising educational activities for undergraduate and postgraduate
    • Taking part in seminars, workshops, conferences etc, in relevant fields.

    Librarian, Grade 12 (1 Position) Ref: PU/ADV/32/10/2016


    Applicants must have a minimum of a Masters degree in Library and Information Science or related field from a
    recognised university.

    Applicants must have a minimum of six (6) years of administrative and managerial experience in a large and
    busy academic library, three (3) of which must have been at the level of an Assistant Librarian Grade 11 or
    equivalent position’ with proven integrity, independence, innovativeness and compliance to deadlines.

    • Assisting in managing on-line and on-ground library management and content development
    • Acquiring and management of electronic resources
    • Interpreting, implementing, and recommending library policies and procedures;
    • Assisting in developing programs and policies that integrate library resources and information
    literacy into the curriculum, whether it is ground-based or online
    • Assisting in expanding access to more specialised resources for University faculty scholarly development
    • Conducting reference interviews with patrons to address special research needs;
    • Administering the budget, developing new funding sources, and supervising grant writing
    • Conducting public relations programs to increase student and faculty awareness and support of
    library programs and services
    • Planning and implementing new information technologies to meet changing needs
    • Supervising employees in the Library
    • Overseeing the referencing, cataloging, and acquisitions work as necessary
    • Any other duty as assigned by the Head of Section/ Department

    Senior Library Assistant /Systems Librarian, Grade C. 1 Position, Ref: PU/ADV/27/10/2016


  • Applicants Must have a Bachelors degree in Library and Information Science/Studies from a recognised university as
    well as training in IT or other computer intensive discipline.
  • Applicants must have a minimum of three (3) years working experience in a busy computerized Academic Library or
    related experience in a large or busy organization.
    • Experience in administrating KOHA Integrated Library System.
    • Experience with institutional repositories, UNIX/Linux operating systems, preferably Debian.
    • knowledge of Apache2 and MySQL-database server.
    • Knowledge of computer networking technologies, the Internet, web-based services, and current developments in
    library applications of information technologies, they should also be conversant with Library 2.0 concept and
    tools, have Knowledge of library standards such as Z39.50 and MARC.
    • Knowledge of the following development environments: PERL, PHP, XML and JavaScript.
    The candidate should also show:

    Duties and responsibilities:
    • Manage, plan, and administer the integrated library system.
    • Manage library website and electronic resources portal.
    • Ensure maximize and effective use of technology by providing regular trainings
    • Create and extract management reports from library software for use by Library staff.
    • Investigate, evaluate, recommend, and implement technologies to improve service and optimize the
    information technology resources.
    • Responsible for installing and maintaining library software and communication with software vendors.
    • Create new applications and adapt existing systems to meet Library needs.
    • Maintain a working knowledge of metadata schemes appropriate for digital information.
    • Manage and support the Library’s population of desktop, laptops, and handheld computing devices and related technologies.
    • Work with schools on issues related to development of institutional digital repository.
    • Verify bibliography details of library materials.
    • Circulate published catalogues to departments.
    • Performing any other duty assigned by the immediate supervisor.

    Library Assistant, Grade A, 1 Post, Ref: PU/ADV/34/10/2016

  • Applicants must have a Diploma in Library and Information Science/Studies from a recognised institution.
  • Applicants must have three (3) years of library or related experience in a large or busy library with proven integrity,
    independence, innovativeness and compliance to deadlines.
    • Active involvement in International/Continental/Regional /National/ Local/Community activities

    • Preparing due date slips and affixing them on relevant books and spine mark
    • Dispatching books to respective destinations for further action
    • Compiling accession lists
    • Undertaking short loan reservations
    • Collecting monies, negotiating fines and reconciling daily accounts
    • Monitoring and maintaining borrowing and overdue files
    • Providing support to ensure all library equipment is well maintained
    • Perform any other duties assigned by immediate supervisor
