We are looking for dynamic candidates with leadership, management and public health experience for the position of Deputy Chief of Party for an anticipated USAID-funded project meant to increase availability and access to equitable quality family planning services.

This activity will be USAID/Uganda's flagship mechanism for providing assistance to Uganda to reach its national family planning goals of reducing unmet need for and increasing use of modern contraception.

The Deputy Chief of Party should have technical public health expertise as well as management experience in developing countries; a demonstrated track record in successful strengthening of health systems; a commitment to capacity building; experience in successfully improving quality and expanding access to health services. This position will be based in Kampala, Uganda, reporting to the Chief of Party.

Your contribution

You will will be responsible for supporting the COP with the duties below:

  • Build local technical, management and leadership capacity;
    Guide operations staff through recruitment, development, training, and supervision;
  • Develop and maintain systems that ensure the safety and security of the team and PSI assets in all aspects of its work according to best practices, PSI operating standards, and field realities.
  • Develop and enforce field office administrative policies.
  • Promote and demonstrate an ethical environment in line with PSI's values of honesty and acting
    with integrity.
  • Support the application of appropriate internal controls to protect PSI's assets.
  • Provide quality and timely management of project lifecycle for all current donor projects including meeting programmatic and financial deliverables;
  • Develop and steward project budget consistent with both organizational and donor requirements.
  • Meet financial and other reporting requirements as required by donors and PSI/Washington;

    What are we looking for?

    The basics

  • You have an MBA, MPH, MD or other relevant advanced degree;
  • You have at least 10+ years of experience in designing, implementing or managing large, complex, sexual and reproductive health programs in/for developing countries; and 5+ year's mid to senior level management experience, preferably of USAID projects of similar size and scope and in Africa;
  • You are familiar with U.S. Government regulations (e.g. Federal Acquisition Regulations and Foreign Assistance Act);
  • You have experience and are passionate in building local technical, management and leadership capacity;
  • You are a creative, innovative and strategic thinker, with: excellent communication, analytical, organizational, interpersonal and cross-cultural skills; and proven ability to produce results;
  • You have demonstrated skills in effectively working with government, donors, other USAID projects, local organizations and partners;
  • You have excellent interpersonal, writing, and oral presentation skills.

  • A connector. You have experience working with Ministries of Health, health care stakeholders, or global health donors.

  • Technical innovator. You have technical expertise in FP, Sexual and Reproductive Health management, Gender and Youth, and innovative ideas when to improve community and facility-based interventions.
