Nyanza Initiative for Girls Education & Empowerment Jobs

Is a Kenyan-based organization registered in 2011 with a goal of returning to school girls who dropped out, mainly due to pregnancy and early marriage.

We are looking for qualified and experienced personnel to fill in the following positions, located in Kisumu County. Girls and young
women age 18-24 years who meet the minimum requirements are particularly encouraged to apply.

1. Center Matron - Girls Empowerment Center -1 Post
Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • To liaise with the Center Coordinator in ensuring the provision of a comfortable living environment to the girls and young women at the GEC
  • To work with the GEC team to maintain a healthy routine of life for the girls and young women, and to make sure that standards of cleanliness and personal hygiene are taught and maintained.
  • To liaise with the Center Coordinator concerning the well-being and lifestyle of the girls and young women at the Center.
  • To deal with disciplinary problems in a firm but caring manner, and to consult the Center Coordinator in any matter of serious concern, and to keep her well informed;
  • To be prepared to work at any reasonable time to help care for the GEC girls and young women in times of emergency;
  • To monitor the GEC muster roll and report any missing girl immediately to the Center Coordinator.
  • To ensure the health and safety rules are maintained in the hostel.
  • To prepare the instill nutritional values to the young mothers and prepare meal plans for the centre.

    Minimum Qualifications
  • K.C.S.E mean grade C and above, with C+ in Eng, C. in Kiswahili & math; fluency in dholuo will be an added advantage
  • Diploma in housekeeping
  • Computer knowledge is an added advantage
  • 3 yrs working experience preferably in an educational institution; Certificate of Good Conduct a MUST.

    2. Field Assistant (7 Posts)
    Key Responsibilities:

  • Support identification of girls and young women to be linked to employment and Internships
  • Offering career guidance to girls and young women and enrolling them to GEC for vocational training
  • Support in organising fundraising events like charity walks, girls forums and community events.
  • Developing activities work plan and preparing regular field reports
  • Organizing and conducting counselling sessions at GEC and home during regular visits to the girls and young women
  • Supporting screening of girls and young women, providing motivational talks to girls in school and addressing immediate needs in the field
  • Act as liaison person between the potential employers and the GEC, to ensure girls and young women get employment and internships.
  • Liaise with the relevant departments to ensure that girls aged 18 years and above aquire statutory documents like ID, NSSF and NHIF cards

    Minimum Qualifications:
  • Certificate in Behavioral Counselling, Community Health, Social Work, P1 training or related field; Computer Literacy (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) a must.
  • Holder of a Diploma in Counselling, Social Sciences or health related field added advantage
  • 3 years experience coordinating community-based activities, preferably on girls or education
  • Certificate or above in Psychological Counselling advantageous
  • Should have good communication and facilitation skills
  • Ability to identify and recruit clients for the intervention

    3. Data Clerks-(3 Posts)
    Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Enter field data in a timely manner and follow up staff in case of data queries.
  • Perform data checks and cleaning; generate and act on error logs.
  • Review, analyze, and validate activities data to ensure consistency, integrity and accuracy based on project specific guidelines
  • Assist in standardizing data management procedures such as documentation and reporting
  • Generate data retrievals and summaries; prepare quality reports.

    Minimum Qualifications
  • Certificate in Computer Studies, Information Technology or related field (C+ in KSCE may be considered); certificate in M&E added advantage
  • Experience in data entry and quality control necessary
  • Data presentation skills required.
  • Ability to meet targets within specified timeframes

    4. Accounts Clerk
    Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Making field payments.
  • Collecting returns from the field and reconciling the same to the payment vouchers
  • Petty cash management
  • Verify the correctness of requisitions before submitting them to Head Office or Project Accountant for processing
  • If assigned to the field, assist with general administration including asset management, property maintenance, and general supply chain and functioning within the field office.
  • File documents generated from above tasks and stamping “PAID” for payments made.
  • Support internal audit exercise.

    Qualifications:
    1. Hold at least KATC or above, Diploma in Business Management, Procurement and Supplies or any other related business field added advantage.
    2. Minimum of one (1) year experience in a busy accounting environment with demonstrated outstanding professional competence.
    3. Proven ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines & work with minimum supervision
    4. Demonstrated proficiency in accounts package ( QuickBooks) and computer applications (Ms. Word, Excel etc)
    5. Competencies: Excellent work ethics- disciplined, punctual, responsible, respectful and pleasant.
  • Ability to multi-task; team player; able to travel long distances; can work long hours, including weekends and public holidays when necessary at no monetary compensation; collegial in conduct.

    5. Procurement Assistant - 1 Post
    Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Liaise with the stores officer on stock levels in order to determine re – order levels for the next purchase.
  • Ensure maintenance of files on quotations and other procurement documents for future references and support to payments.
  • Assist in preparation of monthly, quarterly and ad hoc reports.
  • Follow up on supplies from the Central Stores; and ensure all supplies, services, equipment etc. are in place whenever required
  • Coordinate the opening, evaluation and recommendation of quotations to tender committee in line with procurement regulations.
  • Update the inventory list of property and conduct inventory reconciliations.
  • Assist in preparation for internal and external audits of the department.

    Minimum Qualifications:
  • Diploma in Purchasing and Supplies Chain Management
  • Bachelors degree in any business related field added advantage
  • Minimum two years’ experience in a busy procurement Department
  • Must be computer literate, and proficient in Excel
  • Ability to multi task and pay attention to detail

    6. Human Resource Assistant
    Reporting to: Programs Coordinator

    To support in all human resource related issues which includes among others recruitment,
    attendance and leave management, performance evaluations, staff trainings, disciplinary issues, compliance with legal
    HR/ labour laws, salary & statutory deductions processing

    Duties and Responsibilities
  • Process, verify, and maintain documentation relating to personnel activities such as staffing, recruitment, training, grievances, performance evaluations, and classifications.
  • Assist in informing new employees of human resource policies.
  • Oversees the human resource database.
  • Enter new hire information in the human resource system database.
  • Ensures that human resource files and records are maintained in accordance with legal requirements and organization’s policies and procedures.
  • Oversee hiring, deployment and separation of staff; address personnel issues.
  • Work with the accounts department to prepare payrolls.
  • Monitor staff performance, attendance, leaves, etc.

    Qualifications:
  • Diploma in Human Resources Management.
  • Over 2 years’ experience in a similar position.
  • Must be a registered member of a professional body.
  • Must have sound knowledge of the new labour laws.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, decision making skills and proficiency in computer application packages.
