Job description

Generic responsibilities

  • Responsible for adherence to relevant NRC policies, guidance and procedures.
  • Accountable for advising the RD and Country Security Advisors (CSAs) on security risk management (SRM), in line with established NRC SRM policies, standards and procedures (as defined by the HO Security Section)
  • Accountable for reviews and feedback to CSAs on all security products (plans, reports, assessments etc.) to ensure they comply with NRC standards and ensure copies are sent to HO Security for filing.
  • Acts as the technical reference/resource for the RD and CSAs within the region.
  • Serves as a member of the regional crisis management team, deploys to support country crisis teams within the region upon request, and contributes to the development of crisis management capacity within the region.
  • Accountable for maintaining a general overview of the security context within the region and briefs regional management on key security development and emerging threats within the region.

    Specific responsibilities

  • Direct responsibility for security risk management and day-to-day security support to areas managed directly from the RO (Uganda, Djibouti, Tanzania and Eritrea) as well as oversight to security risk management and day-to-day security in countries without Security Advisor (Ethiopia, Kenya) Somalia, South Sudan and Yemen have in-country security advisors, but in case of prolonged absence/gaps Regional Head of Security assumes responsibility for security risk management support to CD

    Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of experience within the humanitarian staff Safety and Security sector
  • Specialist knowledge and expertise equivalent to an advanced university degree in Civilian safety and Security qualification
  • Experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
  • Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
  • Fluency in English both written and verbal
    Context related skills, knowledge and experience
    Expertise/knowledge about the Horn of Africa region
  • Education field

    We offer

  • Duty station: Nairobi with 40% travel to Country Offices
  • Contract period: 24 Months with possibility of extension
  • Salary/benefits: According to NRC’s general directions, The candidate will observe NRC’s code of conduct and working hours for the NRC Office in Nairobi.
  • Approved health certificate will be requested before contract start

    Job description

    Lead in the delivery of the key outputs from the project with the Consortium members and the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR)
    Provide the legal analysis and write-up in support of shadow reporting and coordination with relevant national level office/organization
    Lead in the design and preparation of trainings, country assessment missions, and the management of
    a consultant and related activities

    Qualifications

  • At least 8 years working experience doing high level human rights advocacy in regional- African Union and/or country office settings
  • Specific work experience in engaging African Human Rights Organs and its Special Mechanisms, and direct work experience with the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR) highly valued
  • Track record in delivering human rights training, policy influencing, reporting and knowledge of AU/Regional institutions
  • Significant understanding of complex emergencies and displacement situations, humanitarian assistance, emergency relief and related human rights issues in Africa;
  • Experience in advocacy strategy drafting and implementation as well as policy development;

    Generic responsibilities:

    These responsibilities shall be the same for all positions with the same title.

    • Adhere to NRC policies, tools, handbooks and guidelines
    • Assist with the implementation of the support function portfolio according to plan of action
    • Prepare and develop status reports as required by management
    • Ensure proper filing of documents

    Job description

    Specific responsibilities
    • Supervise efficient operation in making travel arrangements, book flights and hotel accommodation for visitors and NRC staffs;
    • Provide administrative and logistical support in organizing workshops /trainings/ seminars;
    • Assess and prepare requests for consumables, sanitary items, stationeries, furniture’s office utilization etc.
    • Keep record of all stationeries/stocks used in the office and produce monthly stock reports;
    • Receive and record all incoming deliveries (correspondences) and liaise with the appropriate members of staff for the delivery and distribution of letters;
    • Manage NRC guest house operations

    Qualifications:

  • Degree/Diploma in Administration, Management or related field of study;
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience from working as a Admin Officer in a humanitarian/recovery context
  • Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
  • Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
  • Fluency in English and Amharic Languages
