5. Kenya Veterinary Vaccines Production Institute Senior Production Officer, VPI.11 – Kabete Vaccines - Ref. No : KVVI- 005/2016


Job Summary:

Reporting to the Deputy Director, Technical Services, the Senior Production officer will
be deployed at our Kabete vaccines Production Unit and responsible for providing relevant technical advice on veterinary vaccines production in support of the institute business, operations and processes.

Duties and responsibilities
  • Advising the Deputy Director Technical services on matters relating to veterinary
    vaccines production;
  • Day to day management and administration of the vaccines production laboratory;
  • planning, evaluation and implementation of laboratory services at the Institute’s level;
  • development, validation and implementation of Standard Operation Procedures in the specified laboratories;
  • ensuring compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices and Good Laboratory Practices;
  • assessing new analytical techniques and kits,
  • ensuring the development of appropriate specifications for laboratory chemicals and
    equipments, co-coordinating activities towards achievement and maintenance of international quality assurance and laboratory accreditation,
  • implementing quality control procedures in laboratories,
  • assist in research trials,
  • Ensuring proper maintenance of the plant and equipment.
  • planning and communicating to staff/clients through seminars, field days, workshops
    and conferences,
  • ensuring compliance with laboratory safety measures,
  • Documenting information on new products and technologies;
  • identifying training needs and organizes for the same at the Institute’s level,
  • Planning, budgets, co-coordinating the provision of laboratory services/facilities at
    the Institute’s level.
  • implementation and realization of the Division’s strategic plans and objectives;
  • preparation and implementation of the Division’s performance appraisal systems and
    contracts;
  • Instituting operational accountability; and overall supervision, monitoring of activities of
    the Production Division.

    Qualifications and experience
  • Master’s degree in any of the following disciplines: Veterinary Medicine,
    Vaccinology, Microbiology, Veterinary Epidemiology, Applied Science, Medical
    Laboratory Technology, Biological Laboratory Science or equivalent
    qualifications from a recognized university;
  • A minimum of three years experience as an officer in
  • Meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya 2010 on Leadership and integrity.

    Core competencies:
  • Demonstrate excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills and a
    clear understanding of strategic leadership, management and business skills;
  • Ability to portray and uphold positive national image;
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural and multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity to
    and respect for diversity;
  • Have a clear understanding of manufacturing and commercial principles in a public
    sector setting;
  • Demonstrated managerial, administrative and professional competence in work performance and results.

  • Be computer literate.
