International Rescue Committee Nutrition Officer Job Openings in Kenya


Location: Hagadera

Responsibilities

  • Implement and supervise the inpatient and outpatient therapeutic feeding of severely malnourished under-fives while following the stipulated protocol.
  • Implement and supervise the supplementary feeding of the moderately malnourished under-fives, pregnant/lactating mothers, individuals with medical conditions (HIV/AIDS and TB).
  • Ensure the Blanket Supplementary Feeding Program (BSFP) activities are implemented successfully.
  • Implement comprehensive maternal infant and young child nutrition program (MIYCN) with strong Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI) and Baby Friendly Community initiative (BFCI) approaches.
  • Supervise and monitor the hospital inpatients diet including the special diets for medical cases like diabetes, TB, HIV/AIDS, Hypertensive among others.
  • Train and mentor the nutrition program staff and the integrated community health promoters through identification of capacity gaps and carrying out refresher trainings and on the job trainings.
  • Plan and conduct trainings on Growth
  • Monitoring Promotion (GMP), IMAM and MIYCN to other mainstream health professionals.
  • Develop key messages in nutrition to the targeted beneficiaries, and ensure it is delivered appropriately.
  • Offer nutrition support through counseling to individuals with medical conditions including Comprehensive Care Clinic clients.
  • Plan and conduct the annual health and nutrition surveys together with other stakeholders in the camp.
  • Plan and conduct mass MUAC screening of the under-fives on a quarterly basis in collaboration with the Community Health Promoters.
  • Work closely with other nutrition related programs such as HIV/AIDS, Environmental Health,
  • Clinical Services and Community Health Program in order to improve the nutrition situation in the camp.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

    Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree in Food, Nutrition and Dietetics from a recognized University.
  • Must be a registered nutrition or dietitian KNDI.

    International Rescue Committee Grants Intern Job Openings in Kenya

    Location: Nairobi (Somalia Country Program)

    Key Responsibilities

    Grant Management

    Donor Reporting
  • Track and manage hard donor deadlines regularly and maintain communications with donors
  • Work with sector coordinators to receive progress updates on individual grants and projects
  • Draft and edit monthly, quarterly, and annual reports on projects
  • Send weekly updates to country office staff to coordinate timely reporting

    Grant Tracking
  • Organize and maintain information on grants, sectors, programs, and individual projects
  • Keep documents up-to-date on country office portfolio, ending and beginning grants, etc

    Budget Tracking and Coordination
  • Hold Grant Opening, Closing, and Check-in meetings, bringing together all relevant staff, sometimes at Nairobi and field-levels, to go over financial, procurement, and reporting needs
  • Track budget vs. actual spending of grants monthly;
  • Hold meetings as necessary to ensure necessary spending and adherence to donor agreement

    Qualifications:

  • University Degree underway or recently completed in Project Management, Accounting, International Development, Non-profit Management, or other relevant fields
  • Strong written and spoken professional English required
  • Work experience in any field, full-time work experience in a professional
    office environment preferred
  • Proficiency in EXCEL is a major advantage
  • Writing, editing, and proofreading experience highly desired
  • Willingness to work independently and in group settings
  • Strong interest in the INGO or the humanitarian field and/or Somalia

    International Rescue Committee Medical Officer Job Openings in Kenya

    Key Responsibilities

    Programming
  • Overall responsible for the daily clinical care of patients attending the Kakuma General and Main hospital.
  • In coordination with the Matron of Hospital and the Health Manager, formulate hospital goals, objectives and intervention strategies.
  • Ensure high quality of patient care by conducting regular quality of care assessments of the clinic and implementing recommendations thereof.
  • Report notifiable diseases immediately.
  • Evaluation of services through monitoring morbidity and mortality rates through monthly statistical reports.
  • Review chronic cases at the special clinics accordingly.
  • Identifying and coordinating referral of patients to secondary and tertiary facilities in liaison with the Health Manager.
  • Conduct and supervise the daily morning ward rounds in the hospital.
  • Participate in the Hospital 24 Hr Call system.
  • Prepare weekly work/activity plans for him/herself for review by the Health manager
  • Ensure a participatory and inclusive atmosphere by fostering good relations with all stakeholders including the hospital staff and members of the refugee community.
  • Ensure high quality programming at the clinic with mainstreaming of the principles of protection (safe programming), disaster risk reduction and environmental awareness activities.
  • Participate in camp health surveys and campaigns e.g. Nutrition, Immunization as may be required.
  • Attend the weekly hospital staff meeting and the weekly Quality of Care Committee.
  • Develop clinical protocols and procedures in line with current WHO/MOH and for OJT and theory sessions i.e. during CME’s, round and clinics.

    Required Qualifications:

  • Medical degree from a recognized University.
  • Medical doctor registered with the Kenya Medical and Dentists Practitioners Board
  • More than two years experience in a busy hospital setting.

    Required Experience & Competencies:

  • Excellent clinical and surgical skills.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Computer literate
  • Good team player
  • Ability to work in hardship areas
  • Experience working with a non-profit humanitarian organization
