International Rescue Committee VPRU Emergency Preparedness Specialist Careers in Kenya


Responsibilities

  • Supporting local GBV expertise and emergency response to GBV
  • Organize and lead GBV Emergency Preparedness and Response Training of Trainers (ToT) for NGO network staff and member organizations;
  • Oversee the further evolution of the IRC’s GBV
  • Emergency Preparedness and Response training package to include materials covering inclusivity and diversity, ensuring that training participants are equipped to design and lead programming for women and girls of different age groups and abilities, ethnic or religious backgrounds, sexual orientations, etc.;
  • Using new materials on inclusivity and diversity, as well as IRC materials on context-responsive approaches to GBV programming in emergencies (e.g., mobile service provision, urban approaches, etc.), organize and carry out deep dive workshops for NGO Network staff and members;
  • Establish strong eye-to-eye collaboration with NGO Networks and support their work cascade the trainings and deep dives out to network member organizations operating in refugee recipient locations and conducting programming for women and girls, and/or providing GBV prevention and response services;
  • Ensure the monitoring, documentation and dissemination of learning on supporting local GBV expertise and emergency response to GBV.

    Job Requirements:

  • University degree and technical accreditation or equivalent
  • At least 3-6 years of experience developing and managing GBV programming in humanitarian contexts
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with agencies, local governments and community leaders and develop multi-stakeholder support for humanitarian priorities and advocacy initiatives
  • Demonstrated ability to identify creative and appropriate solutions for the populations affected by crisis, considering factors including the context and an individual client's developmental stage, gender and status
  • Experience managing large, complex donor funded programs and grants, including staff management, budget oversight, monitoring and evaluation systems, and technical input to proposal-budget development and donor reports
  • Experience working directly or in partnership with other VPRU technical fields – Child
  • Protection and Protection/Rule of Law – is not required but is an advantage

    International Rescue Committee Senior Laboratory Technologist Careers in Kenya

    Location - Kakuma

    Job Purpose/Objective

  • The Laboratory in-charge is the team leader in charge of all laboratory operations in IRC Kakuma program.
  • S/he will supervise laboratory technologists to ensure quality laboratory services are offered to the beneficiaries.
  • S/he will coordinate with key partners such as NRL, KEMRI, CDC, MOH and IPs on laboratory related areas in the implementation of health and laboratory programmatic activities. S/he will be instrumental in forecasting and budgeting of the laboratory needs.

    Program Management:

  • Ensures that Laboratory operations are compliant to conditions and standards set forth by various governmental and accrediting agencies including SPHERE standards, WHO, MOH, CDC, UNHCR guidelines among others.
  • Review and approve technical documents, reports, methods, specifications, SOPs and change controls as may be necessitated by change in policies, procedures or general practice.
  • Maintain appropriate laboratory accreditation and quality assurance programs
  • Serve as laboratory departmental liaison during government inspections and audits.
  • Establish, maintain, and improve active and regular working relationships with: government authorities, donors, partner agencies etc
  • Give technical support to all MOH laboratories supported by IRC.

    Budget Management

  • Contribute in the process of preparation on annual budgets for the Laboratories.
  • Monitors and manages the use of resources to ensure allocated budgets are met.
  • Improves operational and administrative process in order to reduce cost and Shows good judgment in the utilization of funds, Laboratory supplies and human resources.

    Qualifications:

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s
    Degree or higher National Diploma in Laboratory Medicine.
  • Over 5 years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting and with 5 years of clinical laboratory management experience included.
  • Experience in managing refugee camp laboratory setting operations desirable.
  • Experience in managing multiple sites desirable.
  • Prior work experience in Laboratory Systems development and validation laboratory preferred.
  • Knowledge of all laboratory national and international standards and regulations.
  • Knowledge of strategic planning, forecasting and budgeting.
  • Registered by Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologist Board
  • Flexibility at work and Cultural sensitivity.

    International Rescue Committee Reproductive Health Officer Careers in Kenya

    Location: Lodwar

    Job Purpose/Objective

  • Working under the guidance and supervision of the RH Manager, he/she will be responsible for assisting the potential ‘’ Pambazuka ‘’ project accomplish the goals of reducing maternal and neonatal mortality in Turkana county.
  • The RH Officer will work closely with the sub county health focal persons to strengthen the delivery of quality facility and community based MNH services.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Technical
  • Participate in the planning, implementation and monitoring of MNH program activities as guided by the project deliverables.
  • Work closely with the sub county RH focal persons in planning and training both community and health facility staff at the county level on MNH competencies.
  • Build capacity of the county health staffs in the supported facilities through supportive supervision in collaboration with the county health management teams.
  • Ensure quality programming through standardized use of guidelines and industry recognized protocols.
  • Ensure strengthening of the community referral systems in the targeted community structures.
  • Assist the supported county health facilities in improving data quality and utilization to improve services at facility level.

    Monitoring & Reporting

  • Participate in the joint IRC & County health teams field monitoring and support supervision exercises.
  • Participate in identification and response to project needs including follow-up to ensure project success.
  • Participate in monitoring timeliness, quality and progress of project deliverables as per the work plans and implementation plans in place.
  • Ensure timely preparation and submission of progress reports, documentation and use of information to continuously improve the quality and performance of the project.

    Communication and Documentation

  • Participate in development and maintenance of project related record-keeping system and provide accurate documentation of all reporting forms.
  • Participate in development of material related to project progress and updates both internal and external use.

    Qualification /Experience & Competencies

  • Diploma or degree certificate in nursing, clinical medicine.
  • At least 3 years experience in reproductive health and community based programs
  • Competent in Windows, MS office programs, email and database (HMIS, EPI-Info) experience.
  • Strong assessment, project planning, organisational, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to multitask, manage pressure and flexibility.
