ILRI Program Accountant Jobs in Kenya

The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) seeks to recruit a Program Accountant to provide financial support to the Animal and Human Health Program. The Program Accountant will provide financial support to the Program ranging from monitoring grant spending, reviewing all charges posted to the projects to be accurate and timely, managing partner spending, positing expenses and reversals as needed, preparation of Financial Reports, assisting in the processing payments among other duties.

The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) works to improve food and nutritional security and reduce poverty in developing countries through research for efficient, safe and sustainable use of livestock. It is the only one of 15 CGIAR research centres dedicated entirely to animal agriculture research for the developing world. Co-hosted by Kenya and Ethiopia, it has regional or country offices and projects in East, South and Southeast Asia as well as Central, East, Southern and West Africa. www.ilri.org

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare donor financial reports /statements and invoices in collaboration with ILRI budget and grants unit, the Animal & Human Health team and project leaders.
  • Processing partner payments and following up to ensure timely payments to sub-grantees.
  • Assist in the management of project funds especially relating to budget monitoring and tracking project finances, reversals for all FSZ project.
  • Maintain proper financial and records of projects.
  • Lead project specific audits.
  • Preparing providing advice on unit costs for proposal budgets and for review by Project/Program Manager and project leader (PL).
  • Review travel expense claims in accordance with ILRI travel policy before approval by PL and regularly consult with staff to confirm and correct details as needed.
  • Preparing internal financial reports as per requests by project leaders- facilitate project activity planning.
  • Monitor and track project partners/collaborators funds as per agreements on regular basis.
  • Review expenditure reports from partners and where necessary initiate corrections to ensure the reports are accurate. Ensure that all support documents have been attached/provided for.
  • Follow up with consultants to ensure timely submission of project advances- travel and field expenses.

    Requirements

  • Bachelor of
    commerce (Accounting/Finance option),
    Full accounting qualifications CPA (K) or ACCA
  • Experience with Projects Accounting
  • Minimum of three years of relevant working experience
  • Good personal organizational skills, accuracy and attention to detail
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Highly effective multi-tasking skills, with ability to coordinate, prioritize and organize workload and meet deadlines

    Terms of Appointment

    This is a Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) position based at ILRI’s Nairobi campus. It is open to Kenyan nationals only. The position is on a 3-year contract, renewable subject to satisfactory performance and availability of funding.

    Job Level

    This position is job level 2C, ILRI offers a competitive salary and benefits package which includes; pension, medical and other insurances for ILRI’s Nationally Recruited Staff.
