icipe Technical Assistant

icipe is an intergovernmental organisation funded by government aid agencies, UN organisations and private foundations to carry out research and training in environmentally sound and sustainable management of arthropods for improving health and agricultural productivity in the tropics.

icipe has approximately 300 staff to support its research and capacity building programmes, located at various sites in Kenya, Ethiopia and Sudan.

The Fruitfly Programme (Plant Health Division) urgently requires the services of a competent Technical Assistant for a short term contract (One year with a possibility of an extension).

The person required should be available immediately.

The position is based here at Duduville campus, Nairobi.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be required among other things to discharge the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Carry out post harvest disinfestations trials on avocado including rearing of Bactrocera invadens and fruit processing.

  • Rearing and supply of fruitfly natural enemies.

  • Carry out experiments to ensure the quality control of the fruitfly and their natural enemies.

  • Assist Scientists and Scholars in their experiments related to fruitflies and their natural enemies

    Requirements:

  • National Diploma in Biology or equivalent from a reputable Institution (National Polytechnic)

  • At least one year’s experience in handling fruitflies their parasitoids and post harvest disinfestations experiments.

  • Excellent knowledge in the use of MS-Excel and MS-Word is essential

  • Be able to communicate effectively in English

  • Be prepared to work long hours including at times week ends and public holidays.

  • Be available to start by 1st August or there about.
