    Qualifications

  • Proven track record in social innovation and social design methodologies.
  • You have a can do mentality with experience in project management and the facilitation of multi-actor platforms.
  • Familiar with the coaching of individuals through various innovation and program development cycles.
  • Able to ‘think outside the box’ and to apply creative approaches that challenge mainstream thinking and practices. In doing so, you are able to balance power relations and ensure a strong citizens voice.
  • Strong analytical skills that allow you to challenge current work practices and enhance learning amongst Hivos staff and key stakeholders.
  • Flexible team player and are sensitive to different cultural environments.
  • Partnership builder, able to inspire and take along various players.
  • Possess university degree in a relevant field and a minimum of 7 years working experience in an international purpose-driven environment, preferably in the world of international development and social innovation.
  • Excellent writing and oral skills in English.

    Hivos Project Associate Job in Kenya

    Responsibilities

  • Conduct a status audit of State Parties’ reporting obligations and compliance with labour rights as stipulated under: the United Nations Convention on the Elimination of All forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW); the International Covenant on Economic Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR); and, the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights (The Banjul Charter).
  • Identify relevant and current practical and systemic labour rights issues and advocacy opportunities across The 5 Countries;
  • Coordinate in-country and cross-country partner clusters and reflection sessions on women’s labour rights, and facilitate the development of policy positions to be advanced at the Committee on the Elimination of All forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), the Committee on Economic Social and Cultural Rights (CESCR), the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights and to the respective national governments.
  • Conduct a scan of advocacy and lobbying opportunities in respect women’s labour rights, with reference to: the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (UNCSW); the United Nations Forum on Business and
    Human Rights (UNFBHR), the East Africa Community (EAC) and the International Labour Organization (ILO), to determine suitability and relevance for advancing core Women at Work Campaign issues.
  • Identify relevant and current practical and systemic labour rights issues and advocacy opportunities across The 5 Countries;
  • Coordinate Women at Work Campaign partners in Eastern Africa, through in-country and cross-country clusters, partner clusters and facilitate the development of a plan and policy positions to be advanced at the UNCSW; UNFBHR; the EAC frameworks and the ILO;
  • Coordinate in-country and cross-country partner clusters on women’s labour rights, for identifying good practices in the promotion and protection of women’s labour rights, showcasing good practices through participation at the UNCSW, UNFBHR, EAC and the ILO.
  • Working closely with the Regional Project Manager, coordinate the timely execution and completion of the study on Workers’ Representation in The 5 Countries and provide quality assurance and stakeholder buy-in of the report, including through convening a stakeholder validation meeting.
  • Working with the Women at Work Campaign Communications Officer, contribute to the development of external communication about the Access to Justice Project of the Women at Work Campaign in the Eastern Africa Region.

    Qualifications

  • Advanced university degree in Social Sciences or a relevant discipline.
  • At least 3 years of relevant working experience and good knowledge of labour rights or business and human rights, and/or gender protection programming.
  • Demonstrable experience and knowledge of lobbying and advocacy in the national, regional and international arena.
  • Ability to work effectively in multi-regional teams and partners with members drawn from a diverse range of nationalities, cultures and disciplines.
  • Ability to work under pressure, often under tight deadlines without compromising the quality of deliverables.
  • Strong English language skills; both written and spoken; Ability to write articles, blog posts, reports and media briefs and strong oral presentation and meeting facilitation skills.
  • Willingness to undertake frequent travel.
  • High level of personal integrity and accountability.
  • Willingness and ability to take the initiative and work independently with minimal supervision.
