Danish Refugee Council Life Skills Assistant Vacancies in Uganda


Background

  • DRC is an International non-governmental organization, which promotes and supports durable solutions to the problems faced by refugees and internally displaced people all over the world.

  • In Uganda, DRC assists the refugees from neighboring countries mainly DR Congo and South Sudan in the South West, West and West Nile region of the country.
  • DRC’s assistance to refugees have been both emergency assistance to address the short term influxes from the neighboring countries as well as to address the sustainable solutions for the refugees.

    Project Management:

  • Responsible for design, coordination, implementation and contribution to the effective implementation of the adolescent girls project by working closely with the beneficiaries, local authorities and partners working in the area.
  • Responsible for building self esteem and confidence among adolescent girls
  • Facilitate development of self management skills among adolescent girls
  • Building the capacity of adolescent girls to communicate effectively
  • Facilitate adolescent girls and boys to Identify and pursue opportunities for economic empowerment.
  • Facilitate and empower adolescent girls and boys to attain finance literacy skills
  • Sensitizing adolescent girls and boys on self-reliance, ownership and sustainable development.

    Background

  • DRC is an International non-governmental organization, which promotes and supports durable solutions to the problems faced by refugees and internally displaced people all over the world.

    Specific Tasks:

    Finance Roles

  • Maintain financial files (physical and soft copies) and records according to DRC Operations handbook.
  • Assist with preparation of the budget.
  • Implement financial policies and procedures.
  • Establish the cash requirements, and maintain adequate cash levels and related cash controls, safe custody of safe keys.
  • Ensure weekly cash counts and reconciliations by DRC Operational office are conducted every Friday of the week, reviewed by the Head of Support and filled in Kampala for review by Finance Officer the following Monday.
  • Ensure month end cash counts are properly supervised and submitted to DRC Country office in Kampala by 1st of every month.

    Administrative Tasks

  • Responsible for efficient functioning of the field offices and Residence compounds in the field.
  • Responsible for the storage and restocking of office consumables (Stationery and Kitchen etc) for field offices.
  • Advice and support the Program Manager or the designate on all administration and premises-related matters within the office.
  • Coordinate and forward to the Administrator all travel requirements local and international and procure travel tickets.
  • Monitor
    all service contracts (compound, internet etc) and forward renewal contract needs to the Administrator.
  • Ensure related contract payments are done before expiry of contract period.
    Supervise the office attendant and Guards.

    Background

    Key Responsibilities

  • Manages assistance to all travelers by ensuring timely accommodation bookings in line with the DRC travel policy.
  • The Administrative assistant controls the central mailing system for Arua Office.
  • The Administrative Assistant is responsible for processing payments to service providers under their docket to be reviewed by the Head of Support for accuracy. These payments will relate to travel and accommodation, utilities (cooking gas, running water, electricity, Garbage and Stan kit)
  • The Administrative Assistant will from time to time be required to take responsibility in office management by ensuring the office environment is clean and conducive.
  • Manages assistance for all guests including staff and all the other stake holders.
  • Manages the central mailing book for West Nile office ensuring that all incoming and outgoing mail is correctly recorded.

    Reporting Arrangements

  • Reports to the Head of Support. The administrative Assistant has no supervisory responsibility but has a functional link with the office attendants and House keepers. A
