African Population and Health Research Center Program Administrative Assistant Careers, Kenya


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the Program Leader’s office and respond to queries in his/her absence;
  • Schedule appointments for the Program Leader and other members of the team as necessary;
  • Manage meetings of the Program, including preparing documentation and taking minutes as necessary;
  • Identify action points during meetings and follow up with the concerned parties to ensure that action is taken;
  • Maintain an effective record and filing system for contracts, project activities,correspondences, and documents for quick and easy reference;
  • Provide support in preparation and formatting of reports;
  • Assist in proposal development process taking responsibility for administrative sections of proposals developed and ensuring all application requirements are met;
  • Assist in contract preparations

    Essential Skills

  • Diploma in Business Administration;
  • At least 5 years of relevant post-qualification experience in a busy office environment, preferably in an INGO, research organization or large research program;
  • Good planning, financial and organizational skills;
  • Good computer skills;
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal);
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment will be an added advantage.

    African Population and Health Research Center Learning Coordinator Careers, Kenya

    Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and coordinate clustering for more than 35 current and prospective partners based in the four countries.
  • Convene partner organizations to advance networking, learning, and engagement with key stakeholders.
  • Provide follow-up and coordination of technical support to individual partner organizations.
  • Manage all sub-contractors, including issuing timely payments, to ensure deliverables are met.

    Key Competencies

  • Good writing skills
  • Excellent meeting facilitation skills
  • Knowledge/relationships with in-country organizations working on education in the region
  • Proven track record of developing and managing complex event schedules/logistics and producing work under demanding timelines
  • Reliable financial accounting
  • Ability to regularly report and synthesize developments for different partners
  • Ability to manage sub-contractors
  • Working knowledge of Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning
  • Proven ability to bring education policymakers and stakeholders to the table

    Requirements

  • Masters degree in Education, Sociology, Psychology, Economics or any other relevant field. Candidates who have completed their PhD studies in the mentioned fields will have an added advantage.
  • At least 5 years’ experience working in the field of education as a researcher and/or development practitioner

    Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership to scientific research unit, program or project in a defined area of work
  • Lead or support a cohesive team and ensure projects in thematic areas are efficiently implemented
  • Contribute to policy engagement and strategic planning as may be needed
  • Lead and contribute to proposal development and fundraising for research projects in the unit
  • Mentor junior researchers and facilitate in the Center’s training programs as needed
  • Secure and manage the necessary human, financial and material resources in the unit, project or program
  • Represent the Center at high – level national, regional and international forums, including relevant technical working groups and expert committees
  • Contribute to institutional publications (i.e. lay dissemination materials such as- policy/research briefs and fact sheets)
  • Oversee data quality and analyses

    Qualifications and Experience
  • PhD in social, health or behavioral sciences, including demography, biostatistics, epidemiology, public health, Urban Studies, etc
  • Rank is open and successful candidates may be appointed at postdoctoral (0-3 years), Associate (3- 5 years), Research Scientist (5-8 years) or Senior Research Scientist (10+ years) levels depending on experience and track record
  • Experience working in a research institution, leading research programs or managing research projects
  • Experience with conducting evaluations of interventions will be an added advantage
  • Excellent scientific writing skills
  • Good quantitative or qualitative skills; experience with mixed methods will be an advantage provided one is very strong in quantitative or qualitative methods
  • Strong proposal writing skills and track record of winning research grants
