About Action Africa Help International

Action Africa Help International (AAH-I) is an international not-for-profit humanitarian and development agency with headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya, and Country Programmes in South Sudan, Kenya, Somalia, Uganda, and Zambia. AAH-I Kenya is working in Kakuma and Mara to implement Logistics and livelihood Projects.

The Role

The Programme Officer will be responsible to support and coordinate project implementation of all projects under the Kenya country program.

S/he will oversee the success of the all projects through ensuring that all activities are implemented in accordance to donor and AAH-I requirements and all deliverables are met.

S/he will support in the development and implementation of a robust M&E system to ensure that Project Officers are able to report on and monitor project progress and ensure efficiency and effectiveness of projects.

The Programme Officer will act as a liaison between project and Nairobi office management, procurements and logistics functions. S/he will participate in resource mobilisation for the further development of the AAH-I Kenya programme.

Qualifications and experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualifications in Social Sciences, Project Management, Agriculture or Business Administration or relevant discipline with further training in management.
  • Minimum eight years’ experience working in project management with atleast three years in senior or middle management level
  • Master degree will be an added advantage

    Skills and Competences
  • Excellent understanding of projects development and management
  • Strong planning and supervisory skills
  • An eye for detail and ability to self-direct and initiate action from others
  • Well developed training skills in project data management, data control and analysis
  • Have skills in livelihoods programming with a value chains and business development orientation.
  • Ability to work effectively and calmly in a high-pressure environment and to prioritize and effectively manage assignments and meet deadlines
  • Good relationship building skills with government officials, stakeholders and communities
  • Excellent computer and report writing skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Innovation and ability to identify and pursue funding sources
  • Have Monitoring and evaluation skills

    About Action Africa Help International
    Action Africa Help International (AAH-I) is working in Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Uganda, Djibouti and Zambiawith Board approval to expand to Ethiopia, Rwanda, Tanzania and Burundi. It brings over 25 years’ experience working with communities in conflict and post-conflict situations, including refugees, internally displaced people, host communities and communities in urban slums.

    AAH-I is looking for a suitable candidate who will provide leadership in Programme Development and Quality. Reporting to the Programme Director, the role is responsible for growing AAH-I’s funding portfolio in line with AAH-I’s strategic plans, while supporting AAH-I to raise its image among donors and other strategic partners. S/he will support Country Offices in program development, in alignment with the AAH-I strategic priorities, and ensuring programmes meet technical and management quality standards.

    The position is also responsible for cross-cutting corporate quality management, supporting in designing operational monitoring/compliance mechanisms to improve systems and procedures, sound design of and overseeing monitoring and evaluation, periodic analysis of the business units, and ensuring that information collected is reflected upon, used to improve ongoing projects and is incorporated into high quality grant proposals and reports.

    This includes linking learnings from the field to the emerging programming approaches in order to create innovations that would render AAH-I a competitive edge.

    Qualification
  • A Master’s degree or equivalent in a relevant subject (International Development, Project Management or one of AAH-I’s programming areas – public health, disaster management, agriculture, etc.)
  • Thorough understanding of project/programme assessment, design, monitoring, evaluation and report writing gained through at least 10 years of relevant experience in programme development and management in a similar organization.

    Skills and Competence
  • A very good knowledge of global humanitarian issues and trends, especially The Horn and Great Lakes, coupled with interest and ability to analyze impact and opportunities of unfolding events on donor funding.
  • Proven experience and strong knowledge (breadth and depth) of various technical sectors of development such as primary health care, food security, social enterprises development, governance, advocacy etc.
  • Ability to engage at a strategic level with bilateral and multilateral donors, Governments and INGOs. Demonstrated track record in successful proposal development and donor relations for major institutional donors.
  • Ability to provide coaching, mentoring and leadership to team members;
    Integrity, honesty, and accountability to both the quality and programming teams and the community.
