Those were great questions Carol! You hit the nail right on the head! these are some of the questions that bother me very much.
I have just read and to some extent I tend to disagree with Joe's comment that most Universities do not ask for an application fee. but what is the 50US$ for? that is equivalent to ksh3000.

Anyway am very excited that Joe will be in the country this weekend. Why dont we catch up for more? Am in Nairobi. Thanks.

As I said, many universities don't charge application fee. Some do but not all of them. The $50 would be the International Postage Fee if the University has to send you the application materials which you can get online.
