Nutrition Manager

Key Responsibilities:

Project Design, Implementation and Evaluation

  • Establishment of procedure for the supervision of emergency nutrition interventions that address management and prevention of malnutrition.
  • Manage multiple integrated health and nutrition projects.
  • Where needs arises, ensure that proposals are raised to meet those needs, This could include meeting with donors to discuss grant opportunities, developing project designs with Programs teams, and developing budgets with Finance team.
  • Needs assessments and surveys conducted, analyzed and data and suggestions made available for appropriate interventions as need arises.
  • Standards/protocols for nutrition interventions for supplementary and therapeutic feeding programs are developed and in alignment with both World Vision and Somali Health and Nutrition Cluster norms.
  • Checklists and mechanisms for supervision and monitoring and shared for SFP. TFC & CTC (CMAM.)
  • Regular statistical reports on nutrition programming provided to Operations, Ministry Quality, Programs team and external stakeholders, including Health and Nutrition Cluster and UNICEF.
  • Progress reports to line manager on project progress; Program team information for reporting purposes to donor; and Finance feedback on finance reports provided.
  • Ensure alignment with financial and administrative procedures are in place while implementing the project activities.
  • Collate, analyze, interpret and disseminate nutrition information to various audiences on a timely basis
  • He or she will be responsible for Human Resource management of staff under his or her care and will ensure that WV Policy is followed
  • Promote local capacities for peace by periodic analysis of program impact on and potential for conflict between beneficiaries and non-beneficiaries, and adjust program accordingly
  • To coordinate closely with all sector specialists to ensure integration of programming.
  • In full cooperation with the Commodities Team, hold coordination meetings with UNICEF and WFP to report on progress and plan joint interventions.
  • Actively participate in Nutrition and Health Cluster meetings at field and Nairobi level to ensure World Vision Somalia programming information is shared and request from Cluster mechanisms are responded to in a timely manner.

    Community Capacity Development and Collaboration

  • Collaborate with local authorities and District Health Board in ensuring linkage between the nutrition programme and the community
  • Work closely with District Health Board and the Village Health Committees to facilitate the implementation of nutrition interventions
  • Assist local health workers and parents/caretakers in instituting therapeutic/supplementary feeding regimes.
  • Assist the Ministry of Health or the local authority to set up and supervise feeding centers and feeding programs.
  • Empower local health workers in community mobilization, active case finding and referral of malnourished children to appropriate nutrition interventions.

    Training

  • Train local volunteers, staff and local partners in nutrition program operation
  • Field teams are aware of how to conduct nutrition survey at the field level
  • Capacity of nutrition staff built to address issues related to malnutrition within the community
  • Capacity of nutrition staff built in basic project management, this could include, proposal and logframe design; basic budget management, Finance, Administration and Supply Chain policies and procedures

    Knowledge Skills & Abilities:

    Required:

  • Master’s degree in relevant field (international development/ International relations)
  • Experience of working and living abroad
  • Humanitarian standards (Sphere), specific trainings on donor requirements e.g. DEC, g2g training, GoG Training, EuropeAid training, Security training
  • 1-3 years of experience in the field of development issues, humanitarian emergency affairs, preferably with experience in developing countries
  • Good English languages skills, Somali is an asset
  • Demonstrates well-developed interpersonal skills, excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, as well as negotiation skills
  • Must adhere to set security standards

    Livelihood Manager

    Key Responsibilities:

    Project Design

  • Working with Program Design Unit ensure that relevant and appropriate concepts/proposals are drafted in partnership with local institutions and partners.
  • Ensure that projects are designed with agricultural technology package aimed at creating self-sufficiency, as well as enhancing the food security status of farmers’ households/local communities.
  • Ensure that baseline data on existing farming systems and water management techniques is updated for use in assessing the impact of the project interventions.
  • Ensure that the agricultural potential in the region is assessed with an aim of improving on the existing farming systems and water management practices for increased crop production and farm productivity.
  • Ensure enhanced integration of the agricultural activities with other sectors
  • Working closely with the PDU and Finance, donor reports are prepared in a timely fashion for submission to donors.
  • Monthly, quarterly and annual program reports prepared as required and submited to the Program Officer/RC
  • Perform other duties as assigned by your supervisor
  • Lesson Learnt through monitoring and evaluation are captured, capitalized and incorporated into future proposal designs.
  • Ensure that technical leadership is provided in the development of livelihood activities including income generation, cash for work, market development, livestock and climate change adaptation as prioritized by communities and local authorities through technical best practices and targeted training.

    Project Implementation & Management

  • Prepare DIP and Cashflows for new project and update them on a regular basis to reflect changes in context.
  • Ensure project timeframes, budgets and resources are respected throughout the entire program
  • Ensure WV staff are tasked and/or local partners are mentored to undertake Livelihood programming as detailed in implementation plans
  • Ensure budgets and expenditures are monitored within budget and in compliance with financial regulations .
  • Ensure timely submission of variance explanations on budgets to Finance team and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Work closely with Finance team to ensure appropriate record keeping is maintained of all donor related vouchers, waybills, etc to facilitate the timely reconciliation and liquidations.
  • Ensure project implementation is in alignment with financial and administrative procedures and policies.
  • Responsible for human resource management of health staff, including performance management, succession planning and disiplinary action when necessary.
  • To coordinate closely with all sector specialists to ensure cross-sector integration of programming at the field level.
  • Ensure WVS projects promote Local Capacity for Peace and take into consideration Protection issues.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by your Manager
  • Ensure that technical and administrative support is provided to Cash for Work community projects
  • In coordination with government and other stakeholders, ensure livelihood/food security and livelihood asset development activities are well planned, coordinated and monitored

    Training of staff, partners and local communities

  • Ensure that enhanced DRR and Rangeland Management techniques are well understood at the community level, among WVS staff, with partner agencies, government institutions and other external partners
  • Tools developed to promote enhanced DRR and Rangeland Management training created
  • Communities trained in innovative water entrapment techniques
  • Communities trained on improved farming and animal husbandry techniques
  • Somali staff training needs identified and resources allocated to ensure professional development

    Other Competencies/Attributes:

  • Demonstrates well-developed interpersonal skills, excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, as well as negotiation skills
  • Must adhere to set security standards
  • Ensure a gender perspective in the scope of work
  • Perform other duties as required

    Knowledge Skills & Abilities:

    Required:

  • Degree in Agriculture or social sciences
  • Professional technical skill desired training in Agriculture in Semi Arid regions
  • Three years of experience in Humanitarian industry

    Preferred:

  • Proposal writing skills and people management skills
