The World Food Programme Somalia activities include food assistance relief, emergency school feeding, humanitarian air and logistics services, food coordination and emergency rehabilitation projects.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the direct supervision of the ICT Officer the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:
a.Design and manage deployment of Information Technology systems including budgeting and planning in accordance with WFP corporate standards.
b.Provide planning, developmental, operational, management, and other specialized technical support for the smooth operation of the organization’s information systems and its flow by means of computer processing and communications technologies.
c.Design and supervise installation and maintenance of local and wide area networks both wired and wireless in accordance with the current WFP standards.
d.Assist with preparation of operational plans and identify resource requirements at the onset of an emergency operation.
e.Recommend standards for hardware and software acquisition in relation to long range needs and capability requirements.
f.Guide procurement with the necessary technical specifications and provide guidance during the preparation of IT tender documents and carry out technical evaluation of bids and proposals received.
g.Analyze statistics and network traffic patterns identifying areas of improvement and recommend potential solutions. Participates in developing and maintaining information system project plans, schedules and budgets.
h.Monitors the performance and reliability of equipment and systems configuration and recommend replacement or modification as required.
i.Maintain the inventory of software assets of Somalia Country Office.
j.Carry out research and development and identify new software and hardware and propose recommendations as required so as to improve/upgrade system performance.
University degree, preferably in electronic/Electrical, technical and/or communications engineering, computer technology or any science/logic related discipline.
At least two years of progressively responsible job related experience in IT systems management and deployment with hands-on expertise with Servers, Wired and Wireless Networking equipment PABX, VSATs, WAN and LAN technologies in a globally distributed ICT operation.
Training and/or experience utilizing computers, including word processing, spreadsheet and other standard WFP software packages and systems.
General knowledge of UN system policies, rules, regulations and procedures governing administration.
Must be fluent in English writing and speaking skills. Knowledge of Somalia language is an advantage;
Familiarity with operations of commercial communications services. Knowledge of WFP’s electronic communications such as PBX, radio and satellite systems.
Proficiency in a second UN language.
