Usually contested in two categories, General and South African, Winning entries and finalists are published in Probe fanzine.
The prize money for each of the sections is as follows: 1st - R750.00 2nd - R500.00 3rd - R250.00.
SFSA reserves the right not to award prizes if, in the opinion of the final judge(s), the standard does not warrant it.
The judge's decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
All entries must be the original, unpublished and not previously prize-winning work of the author (by the submission date for the competition), and must be either science fiction or fantasy.
All entries must be accompanied by a completed entry form.
However, the author's name must not appear anywhere on the manuscript.
All entries must be in English prose and must be between 2000 (two thousand) and 5000 (five thousand) words in length.
All entries must be typed or printed, double-spaced, printed on one side of the paper only and bound (with staples, paperclips, folder, etc.).
No hand-written entries will be accepted.
No manuscripts will be returned so please do not send originals.
Entrants will be judged on: Presentation, Characterisation, Dialogue, Plot, Grammar & Spelling, Writing Quality & Style, and Appeal.
