The Academi Cardiff International Poetry Competition

The competition, which is now officially open, is one of the UK’s leading poetry competitions and offers one of the largest monetary prizes for a competition of its kind.

First prize is £5,000; second prize £500; third prize £250 and five runners-up will receive £50 each.

Each poem must be no more than 50 lines in length and entered on white A4 paper.

Each poem must be typed or clearly written on one side of the paper only.

Please enclose 2 copies of each poem.

All winners will be requested to provide a biography and photograph and take part in any publicity surrounding the competition.

Eligibility:

Entries will be accepted from writers of any nationality and from any country provided that:

  • They are in English
  • They have not previously been published in any form (including appearing on the internet)
  • The author is living
  • They are not translations of another author’s work
  • Entries may be in any style and on any subject.
  • Entries should not be submitted into other competitions or for publication elsewhere while the Cardiff International Poetry Competition is running.
  • Employees of Yr Academi Gymreig (the Academi) and members of the Academi’s Committees and Management Board and their immediate families are not eligible to enter.
