Safety Coordinator Position in Sudan

Medical Emergency Relief International (Merlin)

International Health NGO

Programme: North Sudan

Responsible To: Country Director

Working With: Operations/Project Coordinators, Health, Logistics and Finance/Admin Teams

Location: South Darfur

Start Date: ASAP

Duration: 12 Months

Salary and Benefits: £18,000 - £23,040 plus cost of living allowance of £4,649 per annum (subject to exchange rate), insurance cover, accommodation, flights, and holiday allowance ($145 per month) when in field

Person Specification

Essential

  • Extensive experience in safety related skills in international emergency situations including evacuation coordination, safety assessments, safety training

  • Strong interpersonal and supportive team skills plus proven ability to be flexible and remain calm in demanding situations.

  • Administration, analytical skills and report/comprehensive summary writing

  • Experience of management/supervisory responsibilities

  • Training/presentation skills

  • General practical competencies in radio communications (Motorola and CODAN) and satellite communications

  • Ability to adapt to a changing environment

  • Ability to work in insecure and demanding environments

  • Diplomatic and an effective communicator at all levels

  • Strong leadership skills

  • Flexibility and ability to work within different cultural and political environments.

  • Excellent spoken and written English

    Advantageous

  • Previous experience within the region

  • Knowledge of Arabic

  • Technical skills – radio maintenance and installation
