Livelihood Officers
SOS Children’s Villages Kenya is an affiliate of SOS CV- International whose mission is to build families for children in need, help them shape their own futures and share in the development of their communities.
Key Functions of the Job
Promote and facilitate community participation through the project cycle while strengthening and /or developing community structures to ensure sustainability.
Provide technical support, leadership and training to farmer groups, community management committee and caregivers on entrepreneurship, agri-business, revolving funds management and co—operative development.
Conduct livelihood zone mapping on a regular basis with an aim of advising the local producers from an informed perspective.
Identify and interpret early warning signs on weather conditions and advice farmers accordingly on mitigated food security measures to implement.
Guide SOS CV employees on the interpretation and application of existing policies on food production, market trends, and emerging trends in agriculture and regulations affecting the agriculture sector.
Help the program participants to develop marketing strategies and facilitate the development of strategic linkages for marketing agricultural produce.
Guide the local producers on value addition of the crops and /or livestock.
Support the local producers at the household level to maximize the gains made from their trade and occupation for the betterment of the children in their households.
Design and co-ordinate rapid assessments and feasibility studies on livelihood to help inform program design and implementation.
Interpret risk, hazards vulnerability and need at the national level and cascade information to local producers for meaningful economic gains.
Required Qualifications/Abilities/Experience
Bachelor’s degree in either community development or Agri-Business Management
Business administration; Entrepreneurship and basic accounting skills will be an added advantage.
Knowledge on accounting and computer applications.
At least 3 years working experience in similar field of work.
Excellent command of the most common methodologies to identify, assess and monitor livelihood activities, with proven record of achievements
Experience in proposal development and technical report writing.
Experience in working with common interest farmer groups
