SAB Sports Media Awards
South Africa Awards » Prize for Sports Writers
The South African Breweries Ltd (SAB)is the leading producer and distributor of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages and one of the nation’s largest manufacturing firms.
This competition was conceived as the “SAB Sports Journalist of the Year Awards.”
Savory, a former newspaperman, believed there should be a competition to recognise and reward the achievements of sports writers.
The aim of these awards is to reinforce the importance of the media’s role in South Africa’s sporting development and to recognise and reward talent across all sporting media disciplines.
Rules of Entry:
All individuals are invited to submit their work or nominate others’ work, including editors, managers and/or colleagues.
All entries will be judged in the original language they were published or broadcast.
The format of the awards is built around five categories (print, photography, new media, radio and television).
The overall contributor in each of these categories can be chosen from the sub-category finalists or be an alternative winner.
An individual may enter or be nominated in more than one sub-category and in more than one of the main categories (print, photography, new media, radio and television).
The same item may be submitted in more than one category, provided you submit a separate entry for each.
An individual may submit a maximum of six entries of his/her own work per category.
The judging process will be independent of South African Breweries and be fully audited by a registered, impartial, external auditing firm.
The judges’ decision is final with all results being made available on request.
