Research Associate in Applied Microeconomics

University of Mannheim, Mannheim Research Institute for the Economics of Aging (Germany)

The Mannheim Research Institute for the Economics of Aging (MEA) at the University of Mannheim is searching for a graduate level academic researcher for its Research Unit "Old-Age Provision and Savings Behavior".

The mission of MEA is to evaluate, anticipate and accompany the micro- and macroeconomic aspects of demographic change.

Empirical models and their resulting projections enable MEA to deliver sound scientific advice for economic and social policy.

MEA is part of several international research networks and thus combines academic research on a high international level with strictly scientific policy consultancy.

The Research Unit "Old-Age Provision and Savings Behavior" has developed a panel survey on household saving and investment behavior, the SAVE-survey, which is in the field since 2001.

We seek candidates that would like to participate in the administration and the development of the SAVE-survey.

The candidate is expected to have a strong interest in economic research.

Sound knowledge in statistics and microeconometric methods and applications is required. Future research will have a focus on various interdisciplinary aspects of savings behavior, as well as on survey methodology.

We also expect a willingness to participate in international conferences and to contribute to our national and international research network.

The completion of a Ph.D. thesis is expected and will be supported.

Starting date: January 1, 2007 or earlier

Application deadline: October 15, 2006
