Salary: £18,500 - £ 23,865 Net PA + Allowances
Working together with the Regional Campaigns Manager, Regional Campaigner and the Communications Officer;
You will support the development and delivery of media and advocacy strategies within Horn East and Central Africa through media work.
Your role will also include writing press releases and stories for Oxfam’s programme, advocacy and campaigning work.
You will follow a diverse range of issues from conflicts in Somalia and Sudan, trade policies in East Africa to campaigns to achieve the UN Millennium Development Goals.
You will also organize press conferences, media briefings and reactive lines as well as assist in maintaining and developing relationships with national and international media in the region.
You will coordinate media training and provide branding and communications advice to the senior staff in the region and maintain an overview of regional information available on the Oxfam public website while ensuring that this information is up to date and relevant.
You’ll need an appropriate degree, preferably in communications and/or media studies, or a related field.
You will have experience in development and delivery of media strategies, knowledge of international and national mass media and a proven track record of achievement in media liaison.
You’ll be able to make lateral links between advocacy and media opportunities, have experience of writing for publication and a creative approach to media use.
You will have an understanding of development issues and knowledge of the role of NGOs in development, humanitarian and advocacy work and a good understanding of brand management. You will posses excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Politically sensitive, adept at networking and with your own extensive contacts in the industry, you’ll also be able to travel on a regular basis.
