Qualifications and Experience:


  • Demonstrated ability and experience of working in the context of forced migration and human rights
  • Willingness to work and travel throughout the region and live in simple conditions
  • Demonstrated Ability to train others and work in a multicultural environment


  • Degree in journalism, social sciences or international relations
  • Experience working with media/journalism, preferably in East Africa
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Experience in writing and documentation
  • Ability to write in different styles: press releases, analytical reports, news stories, features, and other articles
  • Demonstrable high level analytical and strategic thinking skills
  • Demonstrated ability in networking, diplomacy and negotiation
  • Commitment to the aims and principles of JRS.

    In particular, a good understanding of the JRS mission and the ability to ensure this mission is envisioned in all the work.


  • Ability to take digital photos and video footage, and work with digital media.
  • Fluency languages spoken in the region, e.g. Swahili
