• Advanced University degree in Education, Economics, or Social
Sciences. Preference will be give to candidates with a strong
economics background.
• At least 5 years experience in project management, preferably
dealing with funds in excess of $5 million.
• Demonstrated competence in coordination and implementation,
preferably in large scale education programmes.
• Strong knowledge of decentralized approaches in education,
particularly block grants and vouchers.
• Experience of working with Ministries of Education and CDD approaches.
• Knowledge of alternative delivery approaches in education – notably
hybrid/expanded Qur'anic education, radio education and mobile schooling.
• Demonstrated commitment to gender equality and girls' education.
• Strong knowledge and experience of monitoring and evaluation of
programmes in developing countries.
• Previous experience in post-conflict countries.
• Diplomacy, good organizational skills, and ability to work under tight deadlines and in cross-cultural environments.
• Excellent communication, writing and presentation skills in English.
• Knowledge of Somali language will be an advantage.
Timeframe:
A total of 12 months from the date of commencement with the
likelihood of extension of a further 12 months dependent on
satisfactory performance and funding availability.
Duty Station:
The position will be based in Nairobi, with regular travel to the
three zones of Somalia.
