University of Southampton
The ORC is a large interdisciplinary research centre with an international pioneering reputation in lasers, integrated and fibre optics, optical communications, optical sensor technology, optical physics and solid state laser technology.
The ORC is ranked as one of the top five University groups worldwide and it was awarded the top grade (5*) for its research in the national assessment of research in UK universities (RAE).
The ORC has a number of well-funded places for UK, EU and International students, which will fully cover programme fees and provide a tax free bursary of £12,600 a year.
Students from a wide range of science and engineering backgrounds are welcome to make an application.
This includes Physics, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology.
Much of the research undertaken at the ORC crosses the normal boundaries of different subjects, so a diverse spread of students is important.
The major pre-requisites are a first or upper second degree, or equivalent from an internationally recognised University.
Applicants must also have a basic background in Mathematics.
The requirements may vary depending on your background and the projects that you may be working on, so we would strongly recommend that you contact the ORC for further information.
