Fixed term appointment for three years
Applications are invited for a PhD Studentship post in water distribution systems modelling and optimization.
This position is related to a new EPSRC funded collaborative project (NEPTUNE) in which 8 universities and three industrial partners will be working together to improve real-time management of water distribution networks.
You will collaborate in undertaking advanced computer modelling work (network operations modelling, development of intelligent data mining techniques, decision support tools, etc), to examine the effects of network failures (pipe bursts, discolouration events, etc) on optimal operation of the system.
Applicants should have a first degree in Engineering (preferably a MEng in Civil Engineering).
An MSc (or equivalent) in a water engineering/modelling and/or practical experience would be advantageous.
The research will suit a graduate with a strong academic background and an interest in computing work.
The ideal applicant would possess knowledge and experience relevant to the development and implementation of clean water models, computational hydraulics and numerical methods.
Research expertise related or complementary to the Centre’s current research is preferred, but good candidates in other areas of water quantity/quality modelling, optimisation methods, water-industry problems and pipe network management will be considered.
Please note the sponsor will pay fees up to the UK/EU rate for home and EU citizens.
However, overseas students will need to fund the balance of the fees for overseas Research Students.
