PhD Scholarships at University of Hull (Criminology, English, Law, History, Politics & International Studies)

The Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences at the University of Hull is pleased to offer 8 full PhD studentships in the following disciplines, beginning September 2007.

Scholarships will cover fees and provide an annual stipend of £10,000 for three years.

Criminology & Sociological Studies (1 scholarship)

CASS welcomes applications within the following areas:

  • Anthropology

  • Criminology

  • Gender Studies

  • Social Policy

  • Sociology

    English (1 scholarship)

    English would welcome applications within the following areas:

  • Creative writing

  • Modern poetry or fiction

  • Victorian literature

  • Renaissance literature

  • Medieval literature

    Applications from outside these areas will also be given consideration.

    History (2 scholarships)

    The History department would welcome applications within its recognised areas of research concentration:

  • Intellectual history

  • Maritime history

  • Imperial and Colonial history

  • Military history

  • Economic and Business history

    No application will be excluded from outside those areas.

    Law (2 scholarships)

    The Law School would welcome applications from suitably qualified candidates especially, though not exclusively, in the following areas:

  • Regulating media markets in the UK and Europe

  • Issues surrounding the use of expert evidence

  • The Europeanisation of private law

  • The Rights of Children, including children in armed conflict

  • Land law and the law of Mortgage

  • Transparency, open government and freedom of information

  • Relationship between Humanitarian Law and Human Rights

    Politics & International Studies (2 scholarships)

    The Department of Politics & International Studies welcomes applications in the following areas:

  • Global Political Economy

  • Legislative Studies

  • Political Theory

  • War and Security Studies

    The deadline for applications in all cases will be 1 May 2007.
