NBD Regional Manager
The Nile Basin Discourse (NBD) is a regional network of civil society organizations established to facilitate and support civil society engagement in Nile Basin cooperation and development processes.
Its mission is to ensure a Nile Basin where resources are equitably and sustainably developed and managed benefiting all its inhabitants.
A primary focus for engagement and advocacy is the regional Nile Basin Initiative and its constituent national governments as well as the media and public.
In a bid to consolidate its achievement to date by strengthening its institution, and to implement its mid and long term ambitious plan, the NBD is inviting committed, competent and dynamic professionals from the riparian countries (Burundi, DRC, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Egypt, Kenya, Rwanda, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda) to fill this position.
Strategic development and leadership of NBD in line with Board decisions.
Ensure proper and effective implementation of agreed programs and provide leadership and effective management of the NBD Secretariat.
Provide leadership in all programmatic activities for NBD and NDF’s.
Ensure compliance in the implementation of organization operational procedures, policies and standards.
Positioning the organization as a key organization in the Nile Basin by engaging the other actors, participation in key meetings, conferences and sustaining media presence with the approval of the Chair of the Board.
High level representation of NBD and NBI, Government and others.
Ensure full accountability to Board and Donors
Funding and Financial
Approval of payments after consultation with the Board Treasurer.
Ensure that annual external audit is conducted and recommendations addressed.
Identify favorable funding partners and accordingly develop, submit and follow‐up funding proposals in conjunction with Board Finance and Funding Committee.
Ensure recruitment and selection of competent staff in collaboration with the Board Human Resources Committee.
Ensure performance standards are set for all staff and reviewed periodically.
Masters degree in a relevant field.
An ability to write clear and concise reports; good spoken and written English, French or Arabic will be an added advantage.
Proven ability to produce results within tight deadlines in a very busy environment
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Ability to interact effectively with a geographically dispersed multicultural team composed of international and national personnel
Ability to motivate and empower self‐directed teams and simultaneously manage a number of large projects.
Ability to develop and maintain strong and effective internal controls
Analytical skills and decision making ability even in complex and sensitive situations
Good knowledge of communication and public relations techniques.
Ability to develop and deliver presentations.
Excellent computer skills with expertise in Power point, Word, Excel and Outlook
At least 5 years experience in a senior position in an NGO handling a broad range of operational and financial responsibilities
Knowledge of and exposure to regional and trans‐border co‐ordination working.
Clearly understands the mission of the organization, takes initiative and consistently works to promote achievement of its goals.
Must be in sympathetic with the aims of NBD as it seeks to express the concerns & aspirations of the member NDFs , CSOs and communities in the Nile Basin in their efforts to combat poverty and strive towards equitable use of the common resources of the Nile for all its inhabitants.
Willing to keep long, highly interactive and flexible hours at work
Must be available to travel within the region for up to 18 weeks a year
Must be a citizen of the one of the NBD member countries.
