International Medical Corps (IMC) seeks a Mental Health Specialist, based in Kenya, to support the development of IMC’s mental health program.

Responsibilities:

  • To provide assessments and act as the primary technical advisor for the planning, implementation, and administration of the mental health initiative
  • Set the standards for culturally appropriate mental health services and provide technical guidance in the establishment of an approach to training, implementation, monitoring, and supervision
  • Develop curriculum for and conduct training of trainers courses for physician Master Trainers
  • Monitor the quality of subsequent trainings and the curriculum, providing guidance and modifying the program as needed
  • Collaborate with local and regional officials and UN and other NGO agencies to promote effective coordination of health services and medical education
  • Represent IMC in coordination meetings when necessary
  • Compile information and prepare written reports as necessary
  • Support the IMC team in implementing the overall project objectives

    Qualifications/ Skills:

  • The qualified candidate will be a mental health professional with RN, Ph.D., MSW, MD or equivalent degree with 3+ years clinical experience
  • Training experience required
  • Strong organizational and supervisory skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work within different cultural environments
  • Honest, hard working and a self-motivated person
  • Ability to work within a team structure or in isolation, flexible, and can cope with stressful workloads and working with limited resources
  • Ability to travel on short notice to project sites by car, boat or air
  • A good command of verbal and written English

    Language Skills:


    - Ability to read, analyze, and interpret, technical and non-technical English language documents and manuals.

    - Ability to write reports, and manuals.

    - Ability to effectively present information and respond appropriately to questions from senior managers in the field and HQ, counterparts, senior government and rebel leaders and other related regional payers.

    Work Environment:


    while performing duties of the job, the employee frequently works in precarious and remote places.

    The employee is usually employed in areas of civil strife, which often result in an unstable security environment.

    Regularly work in outdoor extreme weather conditions.
