Melbourne International Fee Remission Scholarships

The Melbourne International Fee Remission Scholarship (MIFRS) is awarded to international students wishing to undertake graduate research degree studies at the University of Melbourne.

MIFRSs are funded by the University with each faculty having a limited number to award.

The MIFRS covers full tuition costs, but not overseas student health care.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • To be considered for an MIFRS, applicants need to have an unconditional offer of a place in a graduate research degree course (eg masters by research, PhD or other research doctorate) at the University of Melbourne.
  • Only open to international applicants (ie. citizens of countries other than Australia and New Zealand who are not Australian permanent residents.)
  • Applicants must be intending to undertake a graduate research degree at the UoM.
  • A scholarship will not be offered if the applicant has already completed a qualification at the same or higher level as the course for which a scholarship is sought.
  • Applicants who have commenced the graduate research degree for which they are seeking scholarship must have at least 12 months full time or equivalent candidature remaining from January 1st in the following year.
  • A scholarship will not be offered to a student who, as a result of prior candidature and/or prior scholarship, is entitled to a maximum tenure of less than 12 months.

    Selection will be based on the eligibility criteria and academic merit.
