Media leadership fellowships to fund broadcast management course

A fellowship fund will allow five managers, editors or senior journalists working in Southern Africa to attend a broadcast management course, scheduled for November 12 to 16 in Grahamstown, South Africa.

Application deadline: September 28.

The fellowships are for those working at independent radio or TV stations in countries of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), not including South Africa.

Country: Angola, Botswana, Democratic Republic of Congo, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe

The International Research and Exchanges Board (IREX) is sponsoring the fellowships, each valued at US$2,000.

They cover tuition, lodging, food and study materials during the “Essentials of Broadcast Management” course.

The course, at Rhodes University’s Sol Plaatje Institute for Media Leadership, covers key management topics such as broadcasting regulations, ethics, editorial independence and finance, among others.
