Wildlife Conservation Program Officer

Laikipia Wildlife Forum is a dynamic, membership led conservation organization supporting, coordinating and facilitating pan Laikipia conservation and natural resource management.

The LWF invites applications for the position of Wildlife Conservation Programme Officer.

The WCPO will have operational and fiscal responsibility for the programme with the key roles being:

  • Responsible for the operationalization and implementation of LWF Wildlife Conservation and Management Strategy.
  • Secretary to LWF conservation committee.
  • Management of LWF WCMP partnerships with other stakeholders (Landowners, NGOs, KWS, Community groups, etc) in line with LWF vision and mission
  • Collation of Conservation information on Laikipia (from scientific literature etc), ‘Translation’ and dissemination of the same to LWF members and the wider community.
  • Ensuring all appropriate and comprehensive records relating to security issues, wildlife data and other pertinent issue are maintained in hard and soft copy, and all statutory reporting requirements to third parties (particularly the KWS) are met
  • Working with the Executive Director and the M&E officer to assist the development and implementation of alternative fund raising mechanisms to support the wildlife conservation activities
  • Implementation of the LWF conservation strategy (and fund raising for the various activities therein)
  • Maintaining the flow of conservation information from LWF membership to relevant KWS offices
  • Regular advice to LWF membership on conservation policy and their rights and responsibilities in reference to this.
  • Human-Wildlife Conflict resolution and Identifying the best wildlife management practices required and appropriate linkages with appropriate wildlife agencies both local and national

    Required qualifications include:

  • Post graduate (M.Sc Preferred) in a relevant subject;
  • At least 5 years experience in the wildlife conservation sector with a bias towards community based programs.
  • BSc holders with over 8 years experience in the field will also be considered.

    Candidates with experience in Wildlife policy legislation formulation will have an added advantage.
