Government clarifies false Matiang'i message to KCSE C+ students

A message said to have been sanctioned by Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i directed to KCSE C+ students since 1989 has caused a stir online.

The false message purported to have come from Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i directed to students who scored C+ in KCSE since 1989 is making rounds on social media.

According to the message, the government was looking for the students to be absorbed into government sponsored university programmes.

The message suggested that the C+ students who have never joined college or universities since graduating from high school would be admitted to public universities under the government-sponsored programmes.

"The government is looking for KCSE candidates of between 1989 to 2015 who have not joined any college or university with C+ plus and above to be absorbed into JAB programme this year. This is Matiang'i's plan to restore the society as a whole dominate education to less fortunes too. Any party interested should apply with KUCCPS before the second revision ends," read the message.

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) - formally JAB - has, however, asked Kenyans not to pay attention to the message.

"I urge public to ignore messages that students who score C+ in previous years will be considered for admission," CEO of KUCCPS John Muraguri indicated.
