Human Rights Officer

Location: Nairobi, Kenya.

Under the supervision of the Chief of Unit, the incumbent will be responsible for the following main duties and functions:In conjunction with UN agencies and other partners, provide capacity-building and advisory services as appropriate to the Transitional Federal Government and other Somali authorities, Somali NGOs and human rights defenders working in the field of human rights.

Qualifications:

  • Advanced University degree, preferably in law, political science, international relations or other disciplines related to human rights.

  • At least 5 years of progressively responsible combined professional experience, both at national and international levels, in the field of law human rights and humanitarian issues, of which at least 2 years in relation to conflict situations.

  • Fluency in oral and written English is required; knowledge of Arabic is desirable, and Somali an asset.

  • Ability to work in a very difficult hardship environment, and willingness to relocate to Somalia, if required.
