Health Fellowship for Africans: The African Field Epidemiology Network is a non-profit organization and networking alliance of field Epidemiology Training Programs in Africa. AFENET is dedicated to helping Ministries of Health in Africa build strong , effective, sustainable programs and capacity to improve public health systems on the continent.

The "One Health" concept is an approach that seeks to integrate resources across sectors so as to enhance public health. One major gap in the public health system is the absence of a platform for integrating information and developing comprehensive disease surveillance, response and research in addressing health concerns at the animal, human and environment interfaces.

Together with various partners, AFENET innovated and field tested "One Health" models that greatly enhance timely detection, reporting and management of public health concerns.

With funding from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention CDC and the Emerging Pandemic Threats EPT program of the United States Agency for International Development USAID, AFENET seeks to train 6 Field Epidemiology professionals in "One Health" skills through a one year fellowship program.

The fellowship is an intensive, full-time training program, involving short courses, field placement and close mentorship. It will commence in January.
