Geographic Information System Officer
The African Union, established as a unique Pan African continental body, is charged with spearheading Africa’s rapid integration and sustainable development by promoting unity, solidarity, cohesion and cooperation among the peoples of Africa and African States as well as developing a New Partnership worldwide.
Its Headquarters is located at Addis Ababa, capital city of Ethiopia.
As part of the Delimitation/Demarcation and Capacity Building Programmes of the African Union Border Programme (AUBP) a Boundary Information System (BIS) is being established in the African Union.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the direct supervision of Head of the African Union Border Programme Unit, the GIS Officer will be responsible:
To support the technical aspects of the BIS implementation
To collect and analyze relevant data
To maintain the database
To constantly improve the system
To collaborate with the GIS Consultant in developing procedures to effectively run the system
Provide GIS support to the AUBP unit and other division and unit of the AU such as PSOD, Darfur Desk, etc.
Have ArcGIS and IT experiences and Database skills, including geodatabases;
Possess University Degree in relevant field
Have at least five years experience of GIS application in an African setting
Have the ability to simplify technical issues to non-techniques and train other staff.
Be excellent in communication and information management skills
Be computer literate (including data processing)
Proficiency in one of the African Union working language. Knowledge of other working languages would be an added advantage.
Candidates should be preferably be between 25 and 35 years old.
The appointment will be made on a short-term contract for a period of Eleven (11) months, of which the first three (3) months will be considered as a probationary period.

The salary attached to this position is an annual lump sum of US$ 69,392.86 inclusive of all allowances for internationally recruited staff of the Commission.
