Horn Relief is seeking a qualified and committed individual to join the Horn Relief team as a Fundraising Officer.

Based in Nairobi, Kenya, the Fundraising Officer will be a full-time member of the Horn Relief team and will play a crucial role in raising funds for Horn Relief’s Jetty Redevelopment Project (JRP) and related sub-projects as well as liaising with and engaging Somali Diaspora in both fundraising and awareness building for Horn Relief.

In particular, Horn Relief will be seeking a candidate who has:

  • Superior verbal and written communications skills in English, Undergraduate degree in International Relations, Marketing, Business Administration, Education, Political or Social Sciences or related development field training and experience. A Masters degree in one of those fields is preferred.

  • A minimum of 3 years of progressive professional experience in international development, humanitarian work or marketing/PR in the non-profit sector is required and an emphasis on donor liaison and fundraising is preferred;

  • Strong interpersonal skills that will facilitate solid working relationships with individuals, donors, NGO's, organizations, Somali authorities, community members and Diaspora;

    Diplomatic and mature representational skills and the ability to present Horn Relief's work, both oral and written, to diverse audiences;

  • Ability to identify new potential funding sources as well build strategic relationships with multiple stakeholders; Demonstrated results-based track record in fundraising and ability to write successful proposals;

  • Motivation and willingness to take initiative and to identify partnerships, both financial and strategic, and to keep the Nairobi office abreast of developments at all times; Public relations oriented with tact, diplomacy and respect for social protocol;

  • Ability to work independently, meet timelines, and multi-task; Strong computer skills in MS Office and internet research skills; Strong attention to detail and a high level of organization; Ability to field calls from a diverse group of donors and partner organizations;

  • Ability to maintain momentum on multiple activities and processes simultaneously;

  • Maturity, cultural sensitivity and willingness to travel to and within Somalia;

  • Willingness to assume a range of unanticipated assignments; Knowledge of various donor requirements
